Tim Wood optioned down

Tim Wood should be DFA'd. He's a bad pitcher. That's what I call pitchers with more walks than strikeouts. Bad pitchers. Hopefully Meyer pulls a Jose Veras. He pitched well last year, at least. Why not Armando Benitez though? Why have I written so much for something so minor?

I'm a huge believer in gamelogs and game recaps, call it old school, maybe it's just me, but I think they can give someone a more realworld snapshot of what a player is doing and the progress he's making or not making than some extrapolated stat.

That's just me and this is not an anti-stats rant or a put down of that work in any way. We all see things through a different prism.

Take a look at Meyer's last ten games and if you need more go back through old box scores and game recaps and in his case it's easy to see the progression he's made since being sent down and especially over his last ten appearances why the Marlins probably made the decision they did (along with speaking with his coaches and manager in NOLA).

I have no idea how that will translate back in the bigs but at least in my mind he's warranted another look (and it doesn't hurt he's a lefty either).

As I said in another thread, this is a pretty rotten deal for Wood. He's from Tucson and a bunch of friends and family were supposed to be coming to the ballpark this weekend to watch him pitch.

Maybe he shouldn't have given up all those runs then, huh?

Yeah I laughed my ass off at this whole fact. His family went to watch him pitch? Too bad, they got to see in person that he isnt a major league caliber pitcher. I'd hate to laugh at his misfortune but its pretty obvious he's a sore spot on our roster right now.

As for Meyer, I always felt his struggles this year were an anomaly. It just made no sense because he was solid last year... and not in the Lee Gardner-type one year recovery solid... he really seemed like he knew what he was doing. He deserves a better shot this year especially with Pinto gone.

I think Edwin should be DFA'd...

...yeah I said it.

Where do you see are his weaknesses? Is he better than Fredi?

The only difference I've seen is more of a willingness to send players/pitchers down to work on their problems. Wth Fredi it seemed lke let's let the player/pitcher work it out in the major leagues. But is this Edwin's philosophy showing or the FO/Loria changing?

Neither manager can do anything about the bullpen. It's just BAD. We have to sweat it through each night. There are a few good pieces, but not enough to get us through most games

The managers have zero to do with sending guys down.

So you feel it was the FO who kept Pinto around so long? I thought that was attributed to Fredi.

nice ... now there is no chance to see him on sunday........

sucks that his family either saw him implode or miss the chance to see him pitch at the major league level

i've been at games out here where Pinto had his family in the stands and where the cody ross cheering section made it over from NM (cody actually delivered) ... it adds some fun, but his performance last night was terrible and he's struggled over the course of the season

There was a pretty long stretch in the beginning of the season where Fredi wouldn't use Pinto. I don't think it was him.

In the pre-game they made it sound like his family wouldn't show up until Saturday/Sunday, so there's a chance they didn't even get to see him pitch last night.

Fredi didn't DFA Pinto. It was the FO.

I'm sure the FO even tries to dictate how the relievers will be used. It's pretty clear that Marlins managers don't get much freedom.

There's nothing wrong with this thinking. If you just look at overall statistics, you'd think Jose Veras is just having a mediocre season, when it's really been a tale of two seasons for him, thus far. Gamelogs are more important for relievers because a yearly sample size for a reliever is pretty small.

I wouldn't mind seeing him pitch either. Haven't seen him do that in quite some time.

For those really Jonesing for a quick return of Reynel Pinto so you can say "See how wrong the Marlins were..." Pinto's AAA line so far is four (4) appearances, 3.2 innings, 16 hits, 5 earned runs, 3 walks and zero strikeouts for a 12.27 ERA that almost makes the D-Train look like the Comeback Pitcher of the Year.

Great to see Pinto is really committed to getting back to the MLs to show the world what he's really made of. Good get there St. Louis. :thumbup

It's 6 hits, actually. That's a typo.

We'll see, maybe it's a sample size thing, those runs were in his first 2 games back since he left here 3 weeks ago, and even then he only played 1 game in June.
