Yeah not lucky catching that liner would maybe have cost Johnson a loss. Why are some guys bummed that Johnson AND Nolasco will miss the Braves series? Johnson yes ,but Nolasco has a 4.50 ERA which would be higher closer to 5 if not for those two incredible catches his last two games. Anibals pitching better
July 22, 201016 yr To be fair, Ricky has won like 5 of his last 6 starts and has went at least 7 innings in 5 of them....and his strikeouts are going up. And he had his way the last time he faced Atlanta.

Hes won 5 of his last 6 starts mostly because of pretty good run support other than the Strasberg game and those 2 miracle catches really helped and all those tons of home runs hes given up , and some others that just missed being homer runs . make me nervous. I'd still take Anibal and his numbers

Speaking of, thank you COL manager for walking Cody Ross (Strikes out a lot) and Mike Stanton (Strikes out a tonnnn). Very very easily could have been two outs with Boni still on third and no ball yet to have been in play when Paulino came up.

July 23, 201016 yr As of this moment we're only two games behind the Phillies and Mets in the Wildcard (as well as the division obviously) and five games behind the current Wildcard leader. (I admit to to sooooo wanting to kick the Mets to the curb but that's just me.) For a team that has floundered as much as we have for as long as we have, all of a sudden we're not in such terribly bad shape especially if we can make some progress against the Braves this weekend.

Its about putting him in the best situations that take advantage of his best assets. Speed situations that dont involve pure hitting. He just has to find anyway on base and then be a disruptive mess to the opposition....which he has done tremendously this week. If we use him to his strengths and hide his weaknesses... he can help us quite a bit. You gotta believe he (like Cody at times) can be the kind of guy that opponents (and opposing fans) just hate to see come up! I can see people going "oh crap, this guy again?!" Us Marlin fans used to do that... now we have to make our opposition do that. Believe me, Colorado fans wont forget him now!
July 23, 201016 yr As much as I loved those 11 K's from JJ, I was a little disappointed that his pitch count ran up quickly and he only managed 6.1 innings, hence the reason I voted for Bonifacio in the poll. We needed a spark and he provided that with his triple and ultimately scoring the winning run. Yeah, I feel that's happened to him in 3 of the past 4 games he has started. It's like the ballplayers just keep fouling off pitch after pitch and they run his pitch count up, more so now than in May or June. I assume it's that the hitters are beginning to adjust to him. They're all probably well aware that the best way to beat the Fish when JJ starts is to get JJ out of the game. 108 pitches in 6.1 IP against the Braves, 109 pitches in 6 IP against the Nats and now 120 in 6.1 IP against the Rockies. We all know he's done well in these games, I just hope he finds a way to be little more economical so we don't have to go to the bullpen.

Boni said while he was coming up on 2B he saw the OFer was off balance so he went for third. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone else that would/could have turned that into a triple. Here I was thinking he was going to lay one down and cause some havok on the bases. When I saw that ball take to the air I actually cursed at first. That quickly turned into hoping for Fowler to bobble that ball just a bit.
