Clay blew the Hold/Save in the 8th after a Herrera Double and Giambi Single but he kept that damage to a minimum getting a big DP getting out of the inning with the game even at 2. Leo was Fantastic! 3 Batters 3 Strikeouts he's gotten into a groove as of late. Offense was to great again today with a Cody solo shot and Gaby RBI Double being the main offense until the Boni triple to lead off the 9th and back to back intentional walks to set up a walk off single by Paulino. All I have to say is keep the winning going and take at least 2 out of 3 from Atlanta, but a sweep would be HUGE! P.S. It's nice to see a win without Hanley in the Lineup but he needs to get back on track if we want to make it into the playoffs.
July 22, 201016 yr Really couldn't have asked for a better start to the 2nd half. It's been such a fun week(besides the 10-0 game Tues). Even 2/3 from the Braves would keep this momentum building even more, but yea a sweep would be fantastic. 3 over the Braves would put us at two games over .500 heading out West. Too bad JJ didn't get the win but the big picture is obviously more important right now. So just win regardless The opener tomorrow could be tough with D Lowe.
July 22, 201016 yr The inning Leo threw was the best of the season for him....he seems to be turning the corner since those consecutive blown saves against ATL and the Mets.
July 22, 201016 yr A good win. Do they have the horses to win the race, I would say no, but usually about the time the Marlins are almost counted out they jump back into it. I would say this weekend is a good precursor for the last two months of the season, win the series and stay in the wild card, get swept trade everyone expendable.

July 22, 201016 yr Bonifacio playing well is a godsend. Clay Hensley need to get back on the ball Offense still pretty disappointing Suck JJ did not get the win, but he kept the Marlins close enough to win. Also trimmed that ERA by 0.01 points Im thinking the bullpen and the starting rotation is still (naturally) much less streaky then the offense. Once (or if) the offense gets going, you gotta imagine the Marlins will be on a pretty good tear.
July 22, 201016 yr By the way, I'd like to add some things/thoughts. 1. When will it be time for a significant lineup change? This lineup is really inconsistent. I understand that the majority of the team is slumping, so there's no clear way to re-arrange it, but something has to change (and it's not just swapping Uggla and Cantu). 2. I think I'd like to see Hensley and Veras swap roles. This isn't because of the way Hensley is pitching, but I believe that Hensley is more of a middle reliever type of guy, in that he can go multiple innings if need be, being a former starter in the big leagues. 3. Is Taylor Tankersley hurt? There were plenty of opportunites today where he could've been used, yet he wasn't used. I think something is wrong with him. He hasn't been used much recently, and it's certainly not for the way he's been pitching because in his limited appearances, he's been getting the lefties out.

July 22, 201016 yr As much as I loved those 11 K's from JJ, I was a little disappointed that his pitch count ran up quickly and he only managed 6.1 innings, hence the reason I voted for Bonifacio in the poll. We needed a spark and he provided that with his triple and ultimately scoring the winning run.
July 22, 201016 yr What may play out as interesting (because I can't predict the weather or the outcome of any ballgame or even whether I'm going to the kitchen for a diet Coke or grapefruit juice in a minute) is the tropical storm, or vestiges of it that could impact play for the next two days. If for example a game with the Braves is played later in the season (as opposed to the doubleheader later on this weekend) we may not need for Volstad to pitch on Sunday, especially after how badly he just did for NOLA last night. It also gives the whole team, bullpen and starters included one, maybe two days off, and while that can create problems down the line ala 2004, it also might give the front office a chance to make a move and get a new player comfortable in the clubhouse should the opportunity arise. Personally I'm praying for rain and see where things go from there.
July 22, 201016 yr I didn't see much of the game, but I didn't like having Veras pitch to the two lefties when Johnson left. Veras didn't have good command of the zone and was as close as you could possibly come to letting those inherited runners score. Was Tankersley unavailable or something? As soon as I see Veras coming in I started shaking my head.
