I kind of like Leo Nunez as our closer. He's not in the upper echelon of closers, but he's probably in the tier 2. We can upgrade, but I doubt we do.

As much as I hate Tony LaRussa,he is a baseball legend.. those guys don't grow on trees.

You don't find managers like that midseason.

I hope like hell that Ozzie gets fired this offseason and the fish get him

I think we should all hope for the White Sox to implode the rest of the season

There has been a big rift between Kenny Williams and Ozzie as the season goes on.. you can tell that Williams is distancing himself from Ozzie.. something he hasn't done in the past.

It will not surprise me in the least to see him get canned at the end of the season.. which will make me a very happy man.

How "good" is Ozzie? I only really read about him when he says something "naughty."

Perhaps we should be thankful our team doesn't suck at least we are above .500, oh yea don't forget to add one game at the end of the year totals.

maybe we should, but that wasn't my point.

what?? Leo is bottom of the barrel in closers. On some other teams, he probably would of lost his job by now. He has the highest blown saves in the league at 8 and is the bottom 5 in avg, whip, blown save % and his ERA is nothing to write home about. Kevin Gregg has better numbers than him. In other words, he stinks.

I absolutely love him. If not for the simple fact that he is not afraid to publicly call out his own players... but his players still absolutely love playing for him. I think that says quite a lot.

He's also not afraid to switch things up.

Plus he's absolutely hilarious

He also won a WS lol

I just want a manager who isn't a rookie or we gave their first chance at coaching.

Like getting a proven starter, I would like to have some major on-the-field personnel that we know what to expect from. Solid, consistent.

No, he's not. He's right up there with Wagner, K-Rod, Marmol, and Cordero.

Defense sucks, Bullpen sucks, Leo should not be on this team next year, and Stanton continues to act like the first 2 months never happened, and some of you people still believe in this team this year?? This is a .500 team folks... Up by 5 late in the game, a good team gets the victory... The Marlins are not good enough... So save any post-season pipe dreams for next year and enjoy being a spoiler

If we continue playing like this, we can't even enjoy that.

Well, this game sucked. Watching this team have a 6-1 lead (and that one run should not even have happened but was due to Hanley's error) and then implode like that was ridiculous. Everyone here has echoed my sentiments, so not really more to say. Two nights ago we played really great and that's the game I'd love to see happen every night. When your pitching is great, offense is working, and defense is great, you win games and it's fun to watch. But the Marlins are typically inconsistent. If one thing is going well, something else isn't. While our offense continues to work (which is nice to see), this time our defense let us down. It was defense that killed us today. Well that and Leo. And yes, Leo is another Kevin Gregg. He started this season doing really well, but he's horrible now. There's no way I would want him in a save situation and the fact that we continue to use him for that such reason is frustrating to me. And when you have Leo pitching there and the umpire is squeezing him, that doesn't help either.

Hanley's error and Helms/Gaby's error (I combine them because Helms could have made it easier but Gaby shouldn't have let it get by him like that) cost us the game in the end. It gave the Braves hope, it gave them momentum, and most of all, it gave them three runs. Then Leo did the rest. Just awful. It's amazing how one night this team can do so great, and the next be so awful.

Speaking of Hanley. Not sure what was up with him. I do hope he's ok. It was a bit scary seeing him holding his chest and not being able to breathe. Hopefully nothing serious

Come on ash... you cant say with a straight face that he is a decent closer. I know its convenient to jump on a guy who just blew a save... but dude.

Personally I think he could flourish in a setup role but as a closer? Please make my nightmare end,

They'll need to get significant payroll in order for the bullpen to be changed. Its something every year. Maybe the starting pitching will suck next year and the bullpen won't matter. Who knows. I just get the feeling that the fo is going to make some major adjustments from this year.

our projected everyday lineup for next year is very solid.

we have 3 quality arms in the rotation and the rotation really has not been much of a problem and hopefully sanabia and volstad can step it up.

the bullpen has some guys i would like to keep. veras, hensley, badenhop, ohman. As for leo, i think we should keep him but not as the closer. We really need to find one of those guys who is not going to blow more than 4 or 5 in a year. the rest of the pen needs to be fixed up and the bench as well.

i agree.. like ive said before, it would be amazing how a bonified closer would make this bullpen so much better by everyone going down a role.

Personally I hope we throw too much money at KRod.. I know hes not at the insane level he used to be but we need it. The affect of blown saves on a teams psyche is brutal and like i just said, moving everyone down a role would be HUGE.

I don't know. I'm just speaking my mind. I mean, look at Wagner. He has 7 blown saves. Nunez isn't great, but I doubt we can do much better. I like Erick's idea, though.

fair enough as blown saves are blown saves.. but i would take wagner 100 times out of 100 over nunez. An ERA in the 1s.. a whip under 1. A BAA in the .100s. Insane strike out to inning numbers. Its a convenient argument but lets be serious. Nunez on his best day isn't billy wagner.

The best bullpen in the league is the Padres bullpen. Most of their guys are minimum salary guys. We don't need to overspend for a bullpen; we just need to find the right guys.

You also have to remember who their manager is. A former major league pitcher who had an alright career.

Talking about Edwin:

I don't care who he is or what he did as a player, he doesn't have good managerial instincts and I don't like him, back to what I said earlier we need a manager that switches things up like a La Russa type.

I was talking about Bud Black. Didn't you read what I quoted from Erick?

Just in case:

The PADRES manager used to be a major league pitcher, and a semi-decent one at that. He's been both a manager and pitching coach basically, so they, in a sense, have two pitching coaches.

Wagner has proven throughout his career he can close games.... Nunez hasn't...also compare wagner's other numbers to nunez's and it's a completely different story

Leo Nunez is not a bad closer.

Bad stretch? Yeah, he's definitely having a bad stretch having given up a run in 7 of his last 10 appearances.

From April through July he had a 2.64 ERA and was considered by many of us one of the highlights of this season and an all star caliber closer.

It's called a bad month. He's been terrible in August. Maybe a closer change should be made right now because it seems Leo's confidence may not be where it needs to be, but for people to bag on him and call him terrible is just extremely convenient given what happened today.

One day people call him amazing, the next he's the worst closer in the league. Leo is what he is, an elite level set up man and a mid tier closer in the league. Ashraf is 100% right in saying Leo is a tier 2 closer.

The defense is what should be a much bigger worry. Leo has the ability to become an top closer again if he regains his confidence and locates his pitches, that defense isn't going to shore itself up overnight. It's been bad for years and it isn't going to get better any time soon (and in the future).

What the heck? I went to the movies thinking this game was in the bag.

And how long have you been watching the Marlins?... just playing :)

Its one thing for a closer to blow games. Its another thing for a closer to give up as many home runs and extra base hits as Leo Nunez does.

very true. blown saves arent always indicative for a closer.

stats like batting average against, era, whip, strikout to walk ratio, those are the important ones. and ill tell you one thing, wagner would have came in saying there is no way in hell im letting my team blow this lead and he would get it done because you could feel the momentum shift.

leo just adds to the misery.
