gizmo
What a debut from Mendez! Hopefully he's fine and can start again in 5 days
canada-marlin24
mendez was fantastic. interesting how he has the same number as christian martinez did a when i saw him get on the mound you could just tell he would have a big whip type delivery. really hope he is ok because he really impressed me. as for ceda, obviously has great stuff but he really needs to learn how to keep his composure. gonna be hard to win both but well see. Rabbethan
Hopefully Adalberto Mendawesome will be fine. He looked great out there today and we're going to need someone to take over Volstad and Sanabia's spots.
Shaft
Seems like there's very few instances this year where a pitcher has exceeded my expectations. Props to Mendez, and congratz
Fishes on the Pond
What a debut from Mendez! Hopefully he's fine and can start again in 5 days AGREE and hope Mendez is seriously looked at in spring training for ANY position--bullpen or starter. His price is right. :whistle
fanofthefish
Congrats to Mendez on winning his MLB debut, he becomes 11th Marlin pitcher to do so and the first since Chris Volstad won in relief in 2008.
-Miami Fan-
Mendez was excellent. He definitely exceeded expectations. :thumbup We didn't have the most timely hitting, but Stanton's homer was great and what more can you say about Daniel in 2010? Actually a pretty fun game to watch and it was the bomb to see LoMo in the starting lineup. He definitely gets badass points for that. Can we continue with the freak injuries? Good Lord it's getting ridiculous. It was great to see Ceda make his first ML appearance, but I was wondering how that would affect his composure. Overall, I enjoyed the game and I'll be monitoring game 2 at work tonight. Luckily I get off in time to see the last couple innings.

canada-marlin24
edwin said that medndez should be ok as it seemed like a cramp and not a strain. as for ceda, he said " You saw his stuff. Powerful arm. But he didn’t have any idea where it was going". that is definitely true and its clear ceda still needs to learn how to "pitch". Iowa
Nothing short of an amazing performance by Mendez. 9 years in the minors and your first start is against the defending national league champs on the road... great job!

And not just any defending champs, but those ones who are characterized by power. And not just in any park on the road, but one of the smallest bandboxes in the league! Erick
Before everyone starts loving Mendez, it's worth noting that 6 innings was his career high in the minors; the Phillies offense while good has also been inconsistent this year, as well, and his success could've had something to do with them seeing him for a first time, and not having a great scouting report on him (then again, the same can be said for Ceda, and it didn't work out well for Ceda). Anyway, great start, but keeping expectations real, it seems like it was a career day for Mendez. He does, though, have a chance to be a bullpen arm in the future. That's actually what Edwin thinks of him, as well.

Erick
thanks debbie Call me realie. :thumbup Anyway, another clear indicator that he's not a starter is that he only has 2 pitches. I will say, however, that the comments from the Phillies were great. :lol They gave the guy basically no credit; it would be great to sweep the doubleheader, and the series, for that matter. 97marlin
or he could be a future All star, that never got a chance until he was 28, because they thought he didn't have the stuff to start.

Fishes on the Pond
I still thinks he deserves a good look in spring training. Erick may be right that the Phillies didn't have a good scouting report on Mendez. But then all had at least two looks at him and no one adjusted. It can't be impossible to do; the Marlins did it with Worley. (Sorry) The positive is Mendez pitched well enough to get us through a game and not any game. A game against the Phillies in THEIR stadium. I know we're not going anywhere in the postseason, but it is fun causing chaos in the division!!
