Hutton and Waltz spending the first 3 quarters of the season saying that we've been pretty lucky with injuries then half the team winds up on the DL to the point that we end the season with our 4th string catcher. Pauly with PEDs. JJ's leading the the NL in ERA although he didn't pitch the whole season. Volstad having to go back to the minors. October 4, 201015 yr Except for the debut of Stanton and Morrison, there wasn't really anything exciting at all this season. We got perfected by Halladay. That's the way this season should be summed up. Watching JJ was perfectly exciting. I can't stop wondering what would've happened if it was 0-0 after 9. Would both JJ and Halladay have kept going? Also the 3rd out in the 9th for Halladay and the Phillies would've been really weird because the game wasn't over yet. Would they have still celebrated the PG, then got back to the game? JJ only went 7 innings that night. He was already out of the game. Oh, ok. I didn't see the game.

October 4, 201015 yr The only other thing that I will remember from this season is "Get A Life Zack" on a late night with the Marlins game. I'll remember Rich and Tommy carrying quite a load as a middling Marlins team went through a lot this year and the product was at times far from exciting.

October 4, 201015 yr Springing to mind - the brawl of course, Stanton hitting a HR in LA which landed in a catchers mitt in the bullpen and also the false sense of hope and renewed optimism having gone 11-5 to start the 2nd half after the break.
October 4, 201015 yr Small story time Pretty much everything that's been said I suppose, that's first off, but specifically Stanton's slam. I remember it was the week of my graduation, Stanton got called up 3 days before said graduation day. The day after graduation I was scheduled to go on a trip with my Church's youth group [i went] which would mean I'd be out of town for a week, no tv, no games... yeah. I was hoping he'd go deep before then so I could see his first career homer, cause I missed a lot of first career bombs [Miguel Cabrera's... I regret that one, because I HAD TICKETS to that game and didn't go... *sigh*]. Of course, he didn't hit the homer, and I went to graduation and onto the trip with the youth group to Daytona Beach. Fun times So... each day, at around 9 or 10, I'd text someone that I know watches the games [friend, parents, etc] and ask "did Stanton go deep and did the Marlins win?" I wanted to know the former more than anything. June 12th of course, the Saturday I left. He didn't hit it out. Sunday the 13th, I asked again, did he do it? Nope. Monday the 14th, no game so of course he didn't have a chance. Tuesday the 15th, "did he go deep, did we win?" Nope and nope. Wednesday the 16th, nope. Thursday the 17th, nope. Well, I seemed to have a thing for big homers. 2007, I had also gone on a trip with a different Church to Tennessee, with two big homers needed to be hit. I was in Tennessee for the week, and A-Rod was on 499, and Bonds was at 754. Neither of them hit a homer while I was gone, and I was able to see them hit their historic homers live. I lucked out, so I was feeling a little optimistic. I said to my friend and parents, watch him hit it the first AB that I get home. Friday the 18th. The youth trip ended on Friday morning, and everyone was sent packing. My thing was, I had to stay for a bit to help take down all the sets, load the trucks up, and then go back down to Miami to put things back into the Church. We left at around 2 pm I believe, and I was beginning to feel really negative about everything, thinking to myself "it's gonna be a long drive, we're going to hit traffic, what if he gets up there and hits one out before I get home?" We got lucky, no traffic, thank you Jesus. We got to the Church around 6:30 and unloaded quickly, then went home and all we had was just our luggage [my brother and I]. It was about 7:15 so the Rays were just batting there, got their 2 runs in the first. I got my luggage out and my brother got his out, we had to get some things out of the truck then that was it. We got those out and it was around 7:30, Marlins at the plate now. I didn't miss anything offensively. Coghlan doubles to start the game, Gaby gets out, Hanley walks, Cantu Ks, Uggla walks. Cody's up, bases loaded 2 outs, and I knew Stanton was on deck, so I was saying "please, Cody... walk. Just walk, don't hit the ball, WALK!" [i actually yelled at the tv for this and my mother came in and thought I was mad at something so I explained...lol] He did. After being down 0-2, he walked. Mom left the room to take the dog out. Mike comes up, takes a rip at the first pitch fastball, fouls it off. Takes a fastball for a ball then a curve for a strike so I was saying "Oh no..." because I heard he struggled horribly in the Rangers series. He took two good curves for balls out of the zone to run the count full, and then fouled one back to the screen. Finally, he swung, and it was high fastball that was up, and I knew he got under it, but I knew how strong he is, so I knew, at that point, it was gone. I know it just cleared the fence but I knew it was gone, immediately. I was almost crying from tearing my throat out from yelling at just how happy I was [ha!] and my mother ran in and said "NO HE DIDN'T!" and I said "YES!" and ahhh!!! Just a great moment. To quote myself in that game thread: HOLY F*CK YEAH OH MY GOD STANTON YES! ... Yeah I was little excited... ha! And then I was out of town all week in Daytona, and I kept telling my friend "Watch, soon as I get home, Stanton will go deep." I just got home about 15 minutes ago. Ah, good times. October 4, 201015 yr Disappointing season. Loria started it out with pressure on Freddi, by saying we ARE a playoff team. I wonder if he was really setting Freddi up to fire him even back then ? JJ was definately a highlight, as was Dan Uggla's career year. But the lowlights : Hanley's immature spat with Freddi and that blackhole of a bullpen. That rests on the shoulders of Beinfest, and he should and needs to take ownership of that failure.

Stanton's GS was definitely awesome. Incidently, Stanton's debut as a Marlin was the first game thread for me and the first time using this site (although I registered a few days prior I think). This being my rookie year on the site, it was always fun to watch the games and be in the game threads (thank goodness this site doesn't do rookie hazing :shifty). Looking forward to next season Btw, some more memorable moments from this season: "Hey Hey" Hayes death grip after the collision with Nyjer Morgan. As unfortunately as that was, I won't forget Hayes holding on to the ball while he was in pain and refusing to let go of it. Also, I bring this moment up only because no one got hurt: the lady whose beer bottle was hit by a foul ball during, I think a Nationals/Marlins game, ending up soaking her with beer. But no harm came of it and hey the lady got a new t-shirt and beer shampoo for free. Oh and Stanton knocking open a door to where the bullpen was during a game, knocking Leo Nunez off a chair. I found that funny heh

October 5, 201015 yr The Marlins announcing the signing of Wes Helms for next year. In seriousness, the continued purge of the idiot at-bat crew (Ross and Cantu, and Ugglas recent increase in plate discipline) along with the callup of Morrison and Stanton are what stands out the most. Next year its gonna be starting pitching, with an emphasis on seeing if JJ can finish the year strong, something he hasnt dont at all in his career.
