To be honest, we have may just sold high on Dan Uggla. The return is not ideal, but it probably wasn't in this team's best interest to give a 30-year old a five-year contract.

Uggla brings power from a position where it is a luxury, so losing his home run ability is not earth shattering to this teams offense.

I still don't like the deal, but there were possible scenarios that could have been much worse than this.

How is trading within the division for a mediocre utility guy and a crappy reliever selling high? I'm fine with not giving him a 5 year deal and moving him, but there is no way in hell this is the most we are able to get for a second basemen who will give you 30/100 and if it was then sign him for arbi and hold him until the deadline and try again there.

Remember that a year ago, Beinfest & Co. tried HARD to unload Uggla at the winter meetings, but there were no offers even worth considering. What makes anyone think that another team would make a "blown away" this time around?

I know that the Jays had to have made an offer for Uggla. It had to be better than this one...

the fact that we couldnt even get venters or prado says a lot.

So I guess Stanton is now a shoe-in as the cleanup hitter next season....

Mike Dunn was originally drafted as an OF and didn't start pitching until 2006. His minor league numbers have improved each year. High strike out guy, gets hit a bit, walks some hitters, with a pretty minor league ERA.

There HAD to be something better than this. And if there wasn't, you give him arbi and try to unload him again to a contender at the break. This is just not excusable.
