omar infante and who? wtf????

To be honest, we have may just sold high on Dan Uggla. The return is not ideal, but it probably wasn't in this team's best interest to give a 30-year old a five-year contract.

Uggla brings power from a position where it is a luxury, so losing his home run ability is not earth shattering to this teams offense.

 

 

 

Except that the Marlins currently have no power from positions that should.

i could gloat about how the braves just grabbed uggla, but i won't. instead, i'm going to talk about your new acquisitions. believe it or not, i think infante is actually a star in the making. his defense is solid, and an upgrade from uggla, something you guys need, and his offensive numbers towards the end of last season was good, and he could start everyday. i think he can actually be a decent starter for you guys. plus, you need pen help, and dunn isn't bad either. i smell setup guy. i'm going to get grilled for this, but i think you just improved your team slightly with this move.

Doesn't leave much of that $10 million left. I guess we used it to plug two holes instead of using it all on one position.

I really, really think people arent giving Infante a good enough look.

 

Althoug my pupils are dialated at the moment and I cant see anything.

 

But in all honesty, Infante had a good season last year. This frees up some money, and hopefully we can get a good pitcher or CF with that.

 

I'm really going to miss Uggla, and I dont like the idea of a divisional trade. And I dont like the idea of getting a 2nd baseman when we have Coghlan... but whatever. By Uggs

He's 29 with a career .714 OPS. He's not a star in the making.

I'm honestly not sure I can watch this team next year. I'm deadly serious, and I'm not usually the type to overreact. I'm still waiting for the silver lining or the good spin.

 

RIP Uggla's mission, one of the funnier things to pop up on a regular basis in the game threads.

Wow the difference between the deals is 1 year, $23m. We offered him a perfectly good 4 year deal. I've calmed down a bit in the last hour or whatever, but still think we could easily have gotten a better return.

Well I dont care that we traded Uggla. The money he was asking for was a complete joke. 4 years 48 was too much.

 

That being said this was a horrible trade. We needed a starting pitcher or at least a positional player. We added Infante whos a career 714 OPS guy and a lefty who got demoted last year. This is just another salary dump. Dont kid urself we wont be signing anyone. Next year were heading towards a 75 win season unless they add another pitcher which I know they wont do.

I'm not sure I buy that number, smells like something the Marlins threw out there in order to make it feel better and more reasonable. I have a hard time believing Uggla and his agent wouldn't budge from a contract that was worth more per year then arguably the best second basemen in the NL, especially given his age and defense. I don't doubt the notion that he wanted out though.
