Buck's numbers are better outside of Toronto lately and catchers usually come into their own older. Infante, has done this for two years and that is not asking for a lot. Not included in this, is the additional players we will sign with the money Uggla is not getting. Oh, and the multiple multiple relievers we have received who are all awesome. We don't live in a land of infinite payroll where we keep Uggla and add things around him. Big picture people. Our offense has lost nothing, our bullpen is better, and we have Nunez (and Paulino, Badenhop, and Veras if possible) to trade and $5 million more to spend. It would have been nice to also plop a good B+ or better SP prospect on top of Infante/Dunn (Dunn is awesome btw), but the Marlins did their due diligence. BIG PICTURE. I have -0- problems with Uggla, Maybin, and Miller trades, and the Buck free agency signing. We are a better team right now, than we were a week ago. I see the point your getting at but our offense has lost NOTHING??? Really??? This is gonna be sooooo hard to defend. Period.
November 17, 201015 yr ahhh welll look at this: "The Marlins asked for Martin Prado in exchange for Uggla and were told no, then shifted their attention to Infante, says a source" they definitely should have demanded prado or at least venters. one of the two. we basicall got the two back ups. i think infante would start on many teams. he's not that bad.

Uggla not really wanting to get a deal done is understandable considering how poorly this team has managed its talent. heh. I don't have the energy to fight this week bob. November 17, 201015 yr Well, I'm highly disappointed the Fish were unable to obtain a starting pitcher for Dan Uggla. But let's not pretend anyone us here actually knew what teams were offering for Dan Uggla. Yes, the trade is disappointing, but its not Beinfest's fault no one goes to the games and there's no revenue.
November 17, 201015 yr Freaking bs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We trade him in the Div to an already improving team and get mediocre talent back. Ugh we better do something else this off season. 5 for 71 is crazy but hell we could still have held onto him till the deadline and maybe got more. I'm fine with him not wanting to be here too, who would? I doubt many professional athletes are as loyal to teams as us fans. Unless your a young guy looking for a shot it's not really an ideal place to play. Now hes close to home and on a contender. But ugh we coulda have gotten more. Edit- I'm very irrational right now and can't look at this very objectively.

Lower than to Nunez, Paulino, Badenhop, Veras, and plus/minus $3 million on money left to spend, for player acquisitions this offseason. Still a lot. The only scary thing about all of this is Coghlan going to CF. It's not losing Uggla.

In so far as the team is more far more balanced. Defensively the IF has improved. The top of the order has also improved. People and teams tend to overvalue HR's and undervalue defense and lineup balance. In trading Uggla the team gave up one thing: Homeruns. Part of that loss was remedied in the Buck signing and the remainder will balance out in defense. The other aspect being completely dismissed, understandably, is the MASSIVE improvement to the Marlins BP. The overhaul has been significant and sweeping. With the FA' period just underway I am incredibly excited to see the end product.

Not sure what we could possibly go for in FA, another starter? If we got a CF or 3B they'd almost certainly be a cheap, 1 year reclamation project and wouldn't require more then a couple of million. November 17, 201015 yr lol @ our offense losing nothing Baseball is a team game. Uggla is certainly a phenomenal hitter, but Buck can hit and Infante is an enormous upgrade over "Maybin." As long as they can get production from 3B/CF, wherever Coghlan doesn't play, this isn't an issue. And really, I'm ignoring improvement from Stanton, Morrison, Coghlan, and Gaby. Big. Defense better everywhere. Bullpen has gone from bottom 10 to top 10 overnight. It's cool you don't get it. You'll just be that much happier when the Marlins are a better team in 2011 than they were in 2010.

In Infante, if they do in fact use him as FT 2B, they have improved defensively. In a vacuum Infante/Buck > Uggla/Baker/Paulino and it isn't close.

November 17, 201015 yr Uggla was offered a fair contract and for whatever reason he turned it down. Only Uggla is responsible for leaving the Marlins. PERIOD We don't know all the details and the conversations Beinfest has had. In his opinion, this trade is the best he could arrange for the Marlins. I will miss Uggla's power also, but I won't miss his strike three helicopter swings and the 18 errors he had this season.
