3rd base?

Featured Replies

As I am watching the game I wonder why oh why don't we get a 3rd baseman?? Chavez from the Yankees I saw kicked around here. Bonifacio is not the answer and I rather see him if the OF.

One bad play after a good defensive game yesterday and people start jumping on him.

He's not even out starting 3rd baseman, we technically don't have one since Helms, Murphy and Boni will all be getting starts there.

We should not have put ourselves in the position where we're platooning three below-replacement level players out there every day.

But we signed a power hitting catcher, traded for a solid two-way 2nd baseman and a good left handed arm and we have a potentially great 3rd baseman waiting in the minors.

We could have gone for a 3rd baseman but I would have rather gotten a center fielder so if anything we could have a solid center fielder and have Coghlan/Infante at 3rd and 2nd but none were really available for us.

It's the 3rd game of the season, the team is still getting into the swing of things and we will be playing better baseball come Mid May.

Murphy is doing fine defensively and other then today, Boni played good yesterday as MrMarlin said. Everything will catch back up when everyone gets healthy. The past two games seem like you get one thing started and something else fails.

FO has decided that Dominguez is the third baseman of the near future and will put no player in his way.

Pretty big gamble but we'll see.

Another example of the shortsighted view from the FO, seriously none of these third baseman should be starting, one would have hoped they would have learned their lesson two years ago.

I know the Marlins aren't like the big money teams that can afford to throw money at any problem, but does anyone really think that a full season of Murphy/Helms/Bonifacio/..... is going to make this team a contender?

I'll go through a little pain today for pleasure tommorow.

Dominguez is going to be a good 3B and is getting closer. He already plays great defense and has shown some pop in his bat with 14 homeruns in the minors last year. Once he brings the batting average up he's gonna be a force. In the mean time lets just hope Murphy/Helms/Boni can contribute to the team and see where we get.

Hopefully he heals up quickly and comes back stronger than before.

I hope you mean mid-April cause if we have to wait until 40 games in to start playing better then you can say bye bye to playoffs.

It's going to be tough to make it without another 3B. Murphy's an awesome guy to have on the bench and for spot starts, but I can't see him holding down a job for a team that wants to make it to the playoffs. Since Dominguez is probably going to be delayed a while, I can see this FO scrambling to get something done to bring a 3B over here.

Yes I agree it was very short sighted, however let's put this into perspective. The 3B situation is not making or breaking the playoffs. It's annoying because it would have cost nothing to sign minor league free agents like Andy LaRoche or Eric Chavez (who both made better teams than the Marlins respectively), or trade for someone like Chris Davis to slug, or even resign Cantu for pennies to at least hold down the fort and hit a little. I know people freak out on message boards, so please realize I'm not saying these are ideal situations, just better ones based on our depth. I don't think a cheap option like this is catapulting us +4 wins on the season, which is pretty much what we would need to start seriously talking about playoffs, but it would certainly help right now and the bench moving forward.

As for contending, it's all up to the rotation. Just like every year. If these guys are pitching to their capabilities, we will have an outside shot. We'll see if they can stay healthy and consistent for once.

Murphy Iis NOT goin to hit for this position i quess we goin to be cheap again same thing every year the hole in this team is at 3rd :banghead

Every year since we traded Miggy. Yeh I went there.... :mischief

I think the 3B situation is pretty pathetic right now. I think the Marlins should move Infante to 3B and call up Osvaldo Martinez to play 2B.

things I like:

.773 OPS in 130 AA games, .848 OPS in 43 ABs with the Marlins last year...

things I hate:

he can hardly man SS and they've never really put him at 2B to see his defense there.

makes as much sense as anything else, though. sh*t.

I miss Amezaga. He was a better defensive utility guy than Bonifacio, but not that fast. Still, Amezaga's defense was much better. But it's quite dumb to miss someone right now, one must concentrate on what it has available.

Is Amezaga playing??? :mis2 LOL

Do you guys think they will pick up castilo for cheap and plug him in second base and move infante to 3rd base :mis2

Considering Infante is a better 2B? No.
