Admin
We're setting records here, I say we go for double digits for the heck of it.
flsportsfan83
Thank god he was sent down, although I think a bat would have been better than another arm in the pen.
Dr Beinfest
NINE relievers? :o I like. Well, Burke Badenhop is a utility player :lol
Dr Beinfest
Thank god he was sent down, although I think a bat would have been better than another arm in the pen. Yeah but who? We have no useful players that are ready to be called up.

Dr Beinfest
NINE relievers? :o Or, for the next few days, Badenhop is a starter. Actually, more like the combination of Badenhop/Sanches, and the bullpen gets a game. In which case, that leaves us with two pitchers covering a start and 7 arms in the BP. Actually, more like the combination of Badenhop/Sanches, and the bullpen gets a game. In which case, that leaves us with two pitchers covering a start and 7 arms in the BP. The problem with that: Javy. We don't know if Javy will trip into another 7 IP or another 4 IP.
Dr Beinfest
Well right... but it's not like the 7 man BP previous to Hensley's injury wasn't carrying that game either. And it's not like Badenhop or Sanches is doing 7 full innings themselves.... I'm sure they'll be available for an inning in another game. It's potentially overworking some BP arms, but it's in the name of winning. What are we supposed to do? Put Buente on the mound every game and hand out a free one? SilverBullet
Javy's the key here... big time... and in a sense Volstad too. If we get a good round through the rotation this week, it will help so much for Saturday. But I do like that we've beefed up our front lines at least in the short term. Admin
Wes Helms is pretty much three bench players in one so this move makes sense.

If Vazquez goes 4, what do you do? With your scenario, you can't ask Hopper or Sanches to go out there unless it's absolutely necessary, because they'd both be expected to go at least 3 the next day. So what do you do? Remember that this is going to be two days after a a Volstart, where we're probably going to have to use 3-5 guys (depending on the situation) not named Brian or Burke. Then Ani will be up, that'll probably be 1-3 other guys. Then Javy, if he does badly, you're wasting at least 4-5 relievers, since you can't use our long men but don't want to waste anyone out. If Burke and Sanches do well, then you've still got to use another 3 dudes. Then Ricky starts and you'll have to use 2-3 guys. And this point, even with Cishek, we'll have just murdered our pen and still have to play 4 games to play, including another Vazquez start, before an off day. It's just a tough situation, I'm not sure there is a right answer.
Dr Beinfest
Yeah, I know it's tough. Best to work with what you've got though, and just deal with it. Good thing about the Marlins BP? Guys like Mike Dunn and Clay Hensley are definitely capable of going more than an inning. They can basically serve as long relief in a Javy situation, IMO. Use guys like Badenhop and Sanches as 1 inning guys in games that aren't their start if need be. It wont be that long though, that's a good thing I guess. The problem is, Hensley and Dunn are probably 2 of our 3 best relievers. If Javy is gone in 4 innings, do we really want to waste them and not have them for the next day? I mean, besides them two, the only guy who can really go 2 innings might be Cishek. So you get 2 from Cishek, 1 from Mujica, 1 from Webb, and then probably 1 from Clay. Ugh, there is nothing good about any of this.
BosnianBaller_
yeah, buente isn't ready yet. but at least he wasn't as bad as taylor graham. watching graham pitch live against the braves was probably one of the most frustrating things i've witnessed in my life
mystikol87
Maybe they'll send down Cishek and bring up Koehler when that rotation spot comes up again?
