Marlins Stadium Contractors Cut Corners

Featured Replies

Defede has moved on to infect a local TV station with his idiocy.

That's what happens when the majority of the people you hire to work on your ballpark are from Miami-Dade

Is this gonna blow up into a huge scandal and PR nightmare, or will Loria BS his way out of it somehow?

Well, since I moved to an upper deck seat in the new place, row 2 of the vista, look out below. Seriously, I sat in the upper deck of the orange bowl for decades, and although some concrete would fall off occassionally, if that place didnt come down with all the stomping, I am not quite as worried as the fired engineer is (" I won't take my kids to that place"). But, to what extent it is true, I am disappointed.

So the entire message here is - the team is going back over the work of its contractors after it was made aware of some shoddy practices?

:lol

The bottom line is that this stuff is a year old, it's all been reinspected and Defede likes to stir up sh!t.

A more appropriate question to ask might be what happens when government starts dictating "minority" contract set-asides, as they did in this case, regardless of competence.

This is not an unusual story to hear about such a large project. Contractors cut corners all the time, it's a non-story.

Yeah just another nobody writer trying to throw in with a hot-button topic so hopefully he can land on his feet yelling "See! I was one of the ones that started writing about this"

yep - the main issue was the fired inspector who didn't do his job to ensure that things are done to spec ...... it also sounds like the marlins did re-inspect a sampling of work, just not the entire batch ..... now they'll do the entire batch .... again, nothing unusual here

also - on a side note, I love "news" these days ..... because I clicked on a link about a stadium/contractors from my work computer (where I also deal with the construction industry) it comes up with the following suggestions

Is anyone surprised to hear about this? My father-in-law's company, which is considered to be one of the best geotechnical engineering firms in the southeast, put a bid on the site prep work. He told me they didn't get the job because they were "too expensive"for for the county and Marlins. It's like the old astronaut adage about sitting on a rocket with thousands of parts built by the lowest bidder.

That's what she said!

Sorry, I couldn't help myself

I was involved with welding for a little while...and i'm wondering if that inspector lost his certs. He should, falsifying structural information is incredibly unsafe. A porous, poorly done, or weld with little penetration at a joint can cause an entire structure to fail.

im pretty sure an alien invasion knocks over the stadium before shoddy construction does

You mocking another poster for being crazy is oh-so-precious.

Speaking of me, isn't everybody getting tired that. Why is it so outrageous anyway? Its not like I believe the Holocaust didn't happen or that the Moon landing was fake. And you don't see me mocking you for going to your houses of worship every weekend. I'm not the least bit ashamed of my belief so it doesn't bother me in that regard. It just really annoying and reminds me of being bullied. I'm not saying anybody is who does this, but it just brings back those feelings.

hurricane Andrew comes to mind in homested,

Bad memories....I used to own a home in Cutler Ridge when Andrew struck. Barely made it through the storm with my life. Had one wall collapse, then lost my roof and then my entire 2nd floor. It was a nightmare.
