gatorfish1987
For those talking about the attendance of the last several games please keep these things in perspective. Early season MLB attendance on the whole is iffy sometimes due to several factors... like other sports still going on etc... - Kids are still in school and that plays a large factor up until June. Parents bringing kids, High school kids, and college kids aren't able to regularly attend games just yet. - Distractions from other sports like the NBA are still going on like the Miami Heat. With the Heat in the middle of a playoff run, this will take some attention away from us for a while. - The MLB season hasn't heated up yet. The reality is A LOT of baseball fans don't really get into baseball season until late May or June. It is really early and some people wait out a while. I realize that we are in a brand new stadium and excitement should be high, but everyone has to be realistic. Attendance for professional Florida sports teams is iffy at best. Ask the Miami Heat. They sellout a lot of games, but fans are generally showing up by halftime. Some of you have also over exaggerated last night's attendance for the Cubs game. Yes it was bad EARLY. By about the 4th or 5 inning though most people showed up. It was easily 22-25,000 at its peak last night. Everyone has to be patient, the BUZZ is still there for this team and the stadium, but you have to be realistic. Attendance will be fine, but don't expect us to be the Boston Red Sox or Chicago Cubs. Schnellders
Look at the positives - 25k last night would be 10k more than we would have gotten last season midweek.
PhxPhin
What are peoples expectations? Does anyone really think they are going to draw 30,000 a game over the course of the season? I would anticipate that they would grab somewhere between 25k-27k on average over the season ..... putting them in that range between 16th-20th in the league The stadium barely has the capacity to be a top 10 attendance teams It is what it is ........ another thing to keep in mind is that not everyone is going to be buckled to their seat - especially with a new ballpark Open concourses make it easy to wander, people want to check out different views, places like the budweiser bar will draw people in - I went to a game at target field it's 1st season and maybe spent 3 1/2 innings actually in my seat - about the same amount I spent in one of the bars that overlooked the field
MiamiNative0722
I think we will average about 28-30k.
Overhed
I think we will average about 28-30k. If we hover around 1st and 2nd place in the division and play well at home, I could definitely see this, or even better, when it's all said and done. Fishcrazy
Just from watching some of the other teams early on(with Extra Innings preview)looked like a lot of empty seats at most parks. Cincy looked like Sun Life the other day as did Atlanta, among other teams. I would have guessed an average of 25K to start the year. I think that's about where it will end up. Or more obviously if we make a run.
Admin
My estimate going into the season was 33,000+ for a nightly average. I think that 30-33k is a mild letdown and below 30k would be embarrassing.

Admin
Nationals Park averaged 29,000 in its first season. That was for a team that lost 102 games. Keep that in perspective.

BrowardPB
I'm gonna stick with my prediction from last September... First few weeks will draw huge crowds as people indulge in their first game at the new park. Attendance will then drop off considerably through May, stabilizing into June but maintaining a slow decline. If we're in decent shape come the AS break, attendance will continue to decline slowly through July, but then upswing late August into September if we maintain the race. However, if we fall out of the races fast before the AS break like dom2613 mentioned, expect to be able to count the heads by hand come August. Miami_Marlins_fan
Let's face it...south Florida fans are fair weather fans. Before the Heat brought in the "Big 3" they could not sell more than 2/3 of the seats in the arena, even though they had won the championship in 2006 and had a decent team. The attendance at the Panthers before this playoff run was mediocre at best. Some nights the hockey arena was 1/2 empty. Even the Dolphins are suffering. Because they have been mediocre for the past 2 years, attendance has fallen, and now they can only fill the stadium to 82%-85% capacity for the 8 home games. If the Marlins have a chance at the playoffs, you will see the place filled up, but in the years where they are average or only slightly better than average, expect the ballpark to only be 70% to 80% full for most games. pierremvp1
The announced attendance is one thing...I believe the Marlins can claim 18-19k even if nobody shows up, based on season and partial season ticket pre-sales. . What's embarrassing is the number of asses actually filling up those seats, and adding to the franchise income via concessions/parking. Going in, I expected there to actually be 25-30K on average all season, as long as we were competitive. Now, it's looking more like 15-20k actually there. That's embarrasing, in a beautiful new stadium with an exciting team. . Ironically, with the weather as beautiful as it's been, the number of folks actually there would probably have been about the same or more in Joe Robbie Stadium. The difference of course will show up in the long hot summer.
PhxPhin
impossible to make that last bit and past history really doesn't agree all that much also keep in mind that the number of asses in seats is going to be a little more difficult to measure and you are going to get a skew with an increased ST base ....... you will now have "corporate fan" who will pay more for their seats, spend more when they show up - but will not be there every game ....... there is also the impact that in a new park someone may be in the building but not in their seat also right now there is a lot going on ....... NHL playoffs and the NBA stretch run ...... miami isn't some hot bed of attendance as it is also, on a side note - if I were to buy a 10 game pack or something of the sort I sure as poop wouldn't pick the cubs series ......... a horrible team with an obnoxious fanbase ..... would want no part of that one - zero draw there when I have over 70 other games to choose from
pierremvp1
Maybe it's best to give it a few more series before conjecturing on the future. Like tonight, it looks like there's many more than last night, 5k more at least. The fans saw that the games weren't some problem, including parking.....so more showed up. We'll see. But one thing is for sure...these Cubs really do stink....plus they seem to be mailing it in early in the season, or they got South Beached. I expect a Marlins sweep here easily. The Cubs will be even more hung-over in an early game tomorrow.

Old Timer
For those complaining about the attendance - if you don't live in South Fla and if you are worried so much about it, then move here and contribute to the attendance. if not then STFU about it already.
