May 10, 201214 yr btw, can someone clarify for me what it means to win a game in "the final at-bat?" i've always been confused by this, and the astros announcers said that they won in their final at-bat in last night's game Last batter of the game gets a hit to help his team win. Could only be done when playing at home. Extremely overrated stat IMO. Omar's 2 run single would have been considered a "walk off hit" if we were playing at home & hitting last.
May 10, 201214 yr Take the win - only negative comment I have: How much longer is Murphy gonna take up a spot - it just seems like he has outlived his usefulness He provides pop and defensive versatility off the bench and gets 4 PAs a week. Who cares?
May 10, 201214 yr Oh yes almost forgot, it's gotta be in the ninth Doesn't even have to be 2 outs. Can be 0 outs. Doesn't even have to be the 9th. Could be the 5th! Rain shortened game... lol.
May 10, 201214 yr ohhhh thanks for the clarification guys. couldn't find it anywhere on google. so it's more like a "win in final inning of batting" rather than win in final at-bat
May 10, 201214 yr ohhhh thanks for the clarification guys. couldn't find it anywhere on google. so it's more like a "win in final inning of batting" rather than win in final at-bat Pretty much, yeah. Just ... final at-bat is easier to say.
May 10, 201214 yr ohhhh thanks for the clarification guys. couldn't find it anywhere on google. so it's more like a "win in final inning of batting" rather than win in final at-bat Or "win at home in the bottom of the 9th or extra innings." ANY TIME a (home) team hits in the bottom of the 9th and they win the game there will be a "walk off something." As I said before, it's an extremely stupid stat because it ignores crucial hits by the visiting team in the 9th & later innings.

Who cares? I care... he isn't contributing as much as he used to He had two weeks where he had like 4 clutch hits. He is who he is, a utility player. I'll take him over the other options there.

Actually, he only has 3 hits on the season-so that's kinda impossible. But as I said before, 2 of those 3 hits were HR's so he came into the game with 5 RBI's on the season-the same amount as Reyes and 2 more than Bonifacio-and in limited at bats. So being that the Marlins are last in the league in hitting with RISP and struggling to score runs I really don't blame Ozzie for putting him in there.
May 10, 201214 yr Actually, he only has 3 hits on the season-so that's kinda impossible. Ah come on, you know better than that. You know he didn't mean this season.

As I said before, it's an extremely stupid stat because it ignores crucial hits by the visiting team in the 9th & later innings. This is wrong. Today's win was a win in the final at-bat for the Marlins. Last night's win was a win in the final at bat for the Astros as they took the lead in the 8th and closed it out in the 9th. Whoever said "win in the final inning batting" was correct. It does not have to be at home.
May 10, 201214 yr Murphy isn't the greatest, but I really don't see any in-house options for an upgrade if you sent him down. Solano isn't hitting well in AAA, so it's not wise to recall him. Really the only bat in AAA that I can justify being on the MLB roster right now is Petersen and that doesn't do anything to fill the infield utility role. By the way, to those not paying attention, Chris Coghlan has been sucking ASS in the minors since his demotion.
May 10, 201214 yr Too bad Houston doesn't come to Miami again this year so we can Lo Viste that moron, who threw at Hanley, mercilessly. Do you guys think JJ should've hit one of their players? Do you think that it bothered Hanley that they didn't "protect" him? Sometimes, seemingly innocuous things like these can affect the clubhouse. Didn't JJ have a rep for not protecting players a few years ago or am I misremembering?
May 10, 201214 yr By the way, to those not paying attention, Chris Coghlan has been sucking ASS in the minors since his demotion. Yeah, he's definately sucking. It's a damn shame really he couldn't ever get his sh*t together.
May 10, 201214 yr I'm happy with the winning, but i'm still not happy with how Hanley and Reyes are performing at the plate, they are better and need to be better than .220-.230, lets go.

It's a damn shame really he couldn't ever get his sh*t together. he'll be one of those guys we'll say from 10 years from now, remember Chris Coghlan? oh yeah, I remember him, never made it big in the majors

It's a damn shame really he couldn't ever get his sh*t together. This is where he gets his sh*t together. In the minors. CC is struggling physically and mentally but the talent is there. Of course he is going to struggle, he was awful here. He isnt goin to go down for a week and hit 4 HR and be back to the old CC. Give him time to go down and make adjustments
May 10, 201214 yr Murphy isn't the greatest, but I really don't see any in-house options for an upgrade if you sent him down. Gil Velazquez. They can DFA Murphy, I don't exactly think teams will be lining up to claim him.
May 10, 201214 yr Some of the management decisions this team makes are real head scratchers. We called up Rosario and Hatcher just to have them both sit around in the bullpen, not throw a single pitch and then send them back down. Now we recall Mike Dunn, who has a whopping 12.46 ERA in AAA? Is this real life?
