Carlos Lee acquired, Sanchez optioned

As a ML player, why in the world would you block a trade to the Yankees and get a chance to go to the playoffs when you know you'll be placed on waivers anyway? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Jayson Stark

@jaysonst

Heard from 2 clubs in last 30 minutes that #Marlins thought they had Carlos Lee traded to #Yankees - but he wouldn't waive no-trade (again)

:lol

They never should have bothered trading for this f***er.

I liked the trade when it happened, a way to give us a spark when we were dying for RISP hitting and he does that, but he was abysmal for us. I don't blame the FO at all, he hit .200 for us until recently going on a hitting streak against the Padres when it doesn't matter anymore.

Meh. Lee wasn't exactly likely to contribute much, especially when considering his home/road splits. Even back in early July, it was pretty obvious that the Marlins' offense needed far more than an over the hill Carlos Lee in order to realistically contend.

Dominguez will not be sorely missed, but Carlos Lee was never worth the bother.

No ranches in New York.

I doubt he would've even really played in NY. They have Swisher, Ibanez, Jones, Granderson in the outfield and Chavez to fill in for Tex at 1st, I guess they wanted him as a safety blanket in case Texiera's wrist injury turns out to be anything serious.

That f**ker cost us a lot more than he is worth. We could have gotten something half decent from the Yankees in return (you never know.) Obviously the Yankees want him.

Darn it Lee, enjoy being on waivers in the next 48 hours.

He wouldn't have been in new York except for 3 months at most unless he resigned. He was a free agent I believe.

That's what I don't understand. And about half of that time will be spent on the road.

It doesn't seem like he'll be visiting his ranch or family much over those 3 months anyway because he'll be playing almost everyday.

Rather silly if you ask me.

If placed on waivers, and the Marlins decide to let him walk like they did Cody Ross....

Could Carlos Lee reject that too? Curious.

During Beinfest Post trade interview with the Herald, he made it seem as If Logan to first base is not 100 percent going to happen. He was very non committal about the whole thing and left plenty of room out there for the possibility of another position other than first. Cant post a link or I would. On heralds website.

Maybe they are thinking of going after another 1st baseman during the offseason?

That's really obnoxious if true...

And why is Carlos Lee still on our roster? Bobby Abreu and Hideki Matsui got dropped by their teams, I guess since we traded Gaby Sanchez and LoMo is hurt, we're just going to hold on to him? Anyone got an update?

"The Astros are paying virtually all of the $9MM left on Carlos Lee's contract, but one club that spoke to the Marlins said Miami wanted as much as $2.5MM in return for the slugger. Talks never progressed."

Incredible...

If he gets claimed does he have to approve anything or is he just gone? Like if we were like just take him we dont want anything.

I don't think we'd drop him for nothing. Either we trade him for cash or a player or we keep him. Especially since el cavallo will help sell tickets ... bahahha. No but seriously, with Gaby gone, LoMo hurt, Murphy sick, Ruggz back spasms, I doubt we just let walk away.
