Our problems extended far beyond Heath Bell. I doubt we could have gotten an impact player or two for 9 million. 1-2 players were not going to improve this team by 25-30 wins to get to the playoffs.

 

Obviously in hindsight it was a bad signing.

We had the best record in baseball in May. We were over .500 and that's with Bell blowing games and being a bum in April too.

You're telling me if we don't have a closer blowing saves and instead of having a starting OF of Kearns/Bonifacio/Stanton we had instead signed a solid OFer we wouldn't have had a better record? Not to mention we obviously wouldn't have blown up the team like we had either, so all this awful losing that's been going on lately wouldn't factor in at all whatsoever.

 

You take those 7M and use 2M on another bullpen arm like we did with Choate and the rest on a guy like Nate McLouth or bring Cody Ross back, what have you. Bring in some guys and then let them battle it out for the closer role just like we have always done. We used to be the best at bringing in has-beens and reviving their careers like Armando Benitez and Urbina before he set someone on fire. And then we uncharacteristically spend 7M!!! on a closer for 3 yrs... one of the worst signings in Marlins baseball and this is only the first year. If his sh*t continues into next it could very well become the worst.

Ah, we traded for Urbina. In July. To make a run for it.

 

And we spent 9 mill/yr on Bell, not 7.

Honestly, hard to say though without knowing if/where the money would've been spent. As it is, probably not. The other problems are still there - Gaby still bombed. Boni's injury. LoMo still stunk and then injured. John Buck was dreadful. You have Stanton's injuries. Zambrano still tanked. JJ hasn't been an ace. I'd guess we're still hovering somewhere around .500 but not nearly as bad as this because they likely don't make some of the trades and still have a mediocre lineup. I mean had they taken Bell's money and gotten Gio to come, or to pursuade CJ Wilson? Then I might be convinced we could hold it together.

 

 

But hell who knows.

If it is just a binary yes/no on Bell then no. If it is Pappelbon instead or something akin to that, then maybe.

Bell was a reason to blame for a ton of losses early on in the season but when you're 20+ games under .500 it would have made little difference at this point....the offense flat out SUCKS and thus it's rather hard to win when you're putting up MAYBE 3 runs a game...Bell is part of the problem but FAR from the sole reason - and now because I actually had to semi-defend him I need to go vomit.

The team started to pull the plug at 45-52. If Heath Bell was lights out, then the team is looking to add players at 52-45 which would have been in playoff position. So that above is just off.

Needless to say, I haven't been doing much typing for a while, but I'm much better now and should be back to normal soon (minus a few souvenir scars to my left arm.)

"Man shoots pitbull after vicious attack" ... There's alot of articles about a Bradenton man shooting a pitbull in his backyard after it attacked his jack russell terrier, but nothing about a pitbull being shot multiple times and killed after man survives attack.

ANYWAY.

If your story is true, hope you have a full recovery. I had a friend get attacked by a rottweiler and it took a chunk out of his thigh and ass while he was trying to get away and jump over a fence. If he hadn't made it over he would've died because there were two of them. Scary stuff.

And Buehrle has and just loves pitbulls. Had to find a place to live north of Miami-Dade because of the ban.

I hate dogs, but I hate what people are capable of doing to them to make them that way as well. I'd be more wary of the owners where pitbull are owned. They are getting to be a sign of drug activity and a sign of status to dealers.

I rescued a pit back in January. She's very sweet, but she can get very wild. A little crap dog attacked her once and my dog was crying and running for the hills. A little bummed she wimped out, but also a good sign she's not aggressive.

For the record, I was being sarcastic. Pitbulls may be somewhat genetically-predisposed toward violence, but I have been told by veterinarians that it's either not the case and/or very, very exaggerated. Most of the issues are with how they are trained.

 

I strongly disagree with the banning of pitbulls in Miami. Conversely, I strongly agree with banning Pitbull worldwide.

Also, jogging with a gun strapped to his leg doesn't fit in with his purported persona of a liberal lawyer; not saying it's impossible, just that it's suspect. He also has a track record of exaggerating even his alleged accomplishments. So, it's totally justified.
