October 31, 201213 yr Author Perhaps people are underestimating Loria as a scout and assessor of talent -- he's got Hayes pegged as no better than a AAA guy. yes that would take a keen eye.
October 31, 201213 yr Why can't we let Coghlan play second and have Bonifacio play third, after all that is Coghlan natural position. Because Coghlan sucks. Bonifacio really shouldnt be a starter either. Just kind of the position the Marlins are in.
October 31, 201213 yr I don't think Hayes will be back There's an article (I don't have the link handy) that said Guillan wanted to bring Hayes back up in September to have an extra catcher, and Loria came down on it like a ton of bricks with a comment something along the lines of "I never want to see him on a major league roster again." Boom! That made it crystal clear that Hayes has no future here. Perhaps people are underestimating Loria as a scout and assessor of talent -- he's got Hayes pegged as no better than a AAA guy. So, there's hope. I would love to read that article. That right there is a leader.

So, there's hope. I would love to read that article. That right there is a leader. According to a source close to Guillen, he became increasingly frustrated over not being consulted on personnel decisions. On many instances players were demoted without so much as a discussion. Guillen wanted a third catcher in September when rosters expanded. He was told the owner didn't want Brett Hayes back in the big leagues and he had to go with what he had. 'Ozzie didn't know it was that bad, and he was there [as a coach],' the source said. 'There was no back and forth. ... Ozzie and Admin didn't communicate at all [beyond] the necessary.' http://articles.sun-...est-brett-hayes
October 31, 201213 yr Solano hit .295 last year with 2 E in 488.2 innings at 2B. you gotta stick him back there (and Bonifacio in CF). Going into ST, and without them bringing in a speedy CFer, I would imagine this is the plan. I have no doubt Solano is the real deal. I liked him last March and he did nothing in the regular season to temper those thoughts. By cutting payroll I don't see how they will be bringing in someone else to play CF. Most of our $$$ that is already spent on next season is going for pitching. Seeing they seem to still be hot on pitching, I can't really see them trading one of those guys. Reyes dosen't appear to be going anywhere. Buck, maybe, but I don't think Hayes will be back and Buck seems to be the guy to do some tutoring. You would say such a thing.
October 31, 201213 yr yeah... even though I just said we should definitely start at 2B next year I have plenty of doubts
November 1, 201213 yr Plenty of doubts is an understatement. He didn't even OPS .700 if I remember correctly, and he was like a career .260 minor league hitter. Coghlan had a seriously lucky rookie season and was a ROY level player. I think Solano had the same kind of lucky year, but with half the talent Coghs has. He is a reserve guy and nothing more. If we go into next season with him starting at second and Boni in CF we are in deep sh*t.
November 3, 201213 yr We are in deep sh*t. I don't see him starting at second, I think the FO will be smart enough to make at least THAT decision. Boni at second, back at his natural position, and let's find someone to roam center field. Hell, a full season of Bryan Peterson in CF > a full year of Solano at 2B in the WORST case scenario...

November 3, 201213 yr Rotoworld: Marlins signed 3B Alberto Sanchez to a $125,000 minor league contract. Sanchez is a 16-year-old prospect from the Dominican Republic. He projects to have a big, physical frame and is expected to have significant power. Currently a third basemen, he may eventually transition to a corner outfield spot
November 3, 201213 yr 16 years old, eh? so by the time he's 20 or 21 and in the majors we should be just about starting a new rebuilding phase. nice.

November 3, 201213 yr I didn't think that that the Marlins made international signings anymore so I'm pleasantly surprised.
November 3, 201213 yr We signed Kevin Kouzmanoff to a minor league deal today with an invite to spring training. If he can OPS ~.700 like he did with the Rockies (assuming he wins the job) I will take that for a year.
November 3, 201213 yr Kouzmanoff is a very good defensive 3B. Thus, it's a shame he sucks so much offensively. He had a .653 .OPS in AAA this year...
November 3, 201213 yr Jeez, where did Kouzmanoff's power go? He had 23 homers one year for San Diego ... Only 2 homers last season combined in AAA and AA.

At least Coghs was a top prospect with a .300 or so career minor league average, which suggested his success might be actual talent. Nothing from Solano's past, which was as a .260 or so minor league hitter, suggests he will be a .300 hitter in the majors. Now, if he puts up the same slash lines next year over 600 AB's I'll be VERY happy with that. However, if he even gets the opportunity to try it means this team is in trouble...
November 4, 201213 yr If we would not likely to sign certain FA 3b,(actually qualified 3B is rare in this FA market) we have to put some player from inside. So, I think we have several options : 1. Boni 5, Solano 4, Ruggiano 7(or 8), Yelich or CC 8(or 7) 2. Boni 5, FA inf 4(Solano goes to bench), Ruggiano 7(or 8), Yelich or CC 8(or 7) 3. FA inf 5, FA inf 4, Boni 8, Ruggiano 7 4. FA inf 5, Boni 4, Ruggiano 7(or 8), Yelich or CC 8(or 7) It seems 3B option would be clear easily, but real problem is 2B option, I think. Yelich, Ozuna, CC, whoever, etc. We have some outfielders, however there is only few option in 2B. Except Boni, the most idealistic 3B option would be bring a 3B prospect by trading JJ. Yordy Cabrera, Zack Cox? Never mind.
