December 20, 201213 yr While I agree with the Dominguez thing, the Polanco move is a nice signing for a year. He was hurt last year, but if you look at the rest of his career...the only 3B available who was more talented was Youkilis and he's not $12 million, at this point. It's a nice deal. I had forgotten Polanco was a free agent, but he's honestly better than Reynolds, Ian Stewart, Jack Hannahan, Jeff Keppinger and all the other mediocre players who have gotten better deals this offseason because they're capable of playing 3B somewhat. Polanco is a very good defender and his batted ball data suggest that his average should be better than the .257 BA he put up last year. I like it. If they're facing a tough righty that presents a good matchup, they could also put him at 2B and maybe let Dobbs play 3B occasionally, as well.
December 20, 201213 yr Also, if he starts playing like it's 2011 again (which is pretty recent), he'll have value at the trade deadline.

December 20, 201213 yr yeah i think in retrospect (and also before and during it) the matty D for carlos lee trade was pretty dumb
December 20, 201213 yr Good signing. I think the offense might surprise to the up side. The starting pitching, on the other hand, will probably test a saint's patience. i'm actually pretty excited to watch our SP next year. I like watching young pitchers. And how could it go wrong, Ricky Nolasco is our ace
December 20, 201213 yr Good signing. I think the offense might surprise to the up side. The starting pitching, on the other hand, will probably test a saint's patience. The SP finally doesn't have a shitty defense behind it, to be fair.

December 20, 201213 yr i wouldnt mind 1 more starting pitcher signing and then just go into spring with this team. I dont think we will be as bad as people think. Good luck convincing Stanton of that
December 20, 201213 yr Of late, one of many moronic moves. Looking at your avatar of Loria (and others)... I wish I had the software (and the time) to insert Loria's face over an image of Emperor Palpatine
December 20, 201213 yr If the Marlins don't lose at least 94 games you can ban me from this website. Marlins will win 75 games this year.
December 20, 201213 yr Before signing Polanco, other clubs say they explored deals for Olt, Castellanos and Gyorko.
December 20, 201213 yr Before signing Polanco, other clubs say they explored deals for Olt, Castellanos and Gyorko. Smart to try but I'm sure those would've been really pricey in terms of our own prospects. We have to just hope Cox pans out.
December 20, 201213 yr If the Marlins don't lose at least 94 games you can ban me from this website. Site slogan should be "the road to 70 wins." Puma's gonna be banned after the year.
December 20, 201213 yr Yes, do it! At least it will give us all something to follow this year. It'll be fun.
December 20, 201213 yr Lineup (career Avg.) Pierre (.297) Solano (.295) Stanton (.270) Lomo (.251) Rugg (.277) Polanco (.299) Brantly (.290) Heche (.254) Who cares about career averages when our lineup consists of guys who either haven't had much experience in the major leagues or are aging/declining?
December 20, 201213 yr Batting average wins championships. Just like career wins determines the worth of a pitcher.

December 20, 201213 yr The lineup isn't that bad really. The problem is no one would pitch to Stanton... he needs protection and all though I like Lomo, he ain't it.
December 20, 201213 yr Would have been much better off with Escobar. Polanco is injury prone and with polanco, Pierre, Hechavarria, and solano we may actually set the record for fewest home runs. That's actually possible
