February 9, 201313 yr All Time: Hanley and Luis Castillo! Current: Stanton. Waiting on José Fernandez to become the Beast of an Ace he will be!
February 9, 201313 yr I've been a big Ricky fan. It said favorite Marlin, but that doesn't rule out guys who frustrate you with inconsistency. But if I had to pick one guy I wanted to have a stellar year every year since he's been here, it would be him. From what I've seen in person he seems like a genuine guy and he was very respectful. It's also not really a cop out to say Stanton. Sure, his talent makes him far to obvious to say favorite, but his personality also makes him very easy to root for.
February 10, 201313 yr Current: Ruggiano, Turner and Stanton All Time: Conine, Rapp, Kevin Brown, CJ, and Sheffield
February 10, 201313 yr I don't have a favorite Marlin because Im a Marlins fan... I cheer for the laundry, not the players. If it says Miami on the front, that's who I'm rooting for. Sadly thats how it goes down here. ....eh, I'm gonna kill my point I do have to answer the question nonetheless... Current: Stanton & Cishek All-Time: Sheffield, Lowell, Beckett, and Hanley

Nolasco's consistent mediocrity makes him one of the least likable Marlins, in my opinion.
February 11, 201313 yr I'm kind of afraid to say I have a favorite Marlin. I thought Dontrelle Willis was awesome and got his jersey....... about the same time he got traded away. I got customized teal Converse shoes that I jokingly labeled "Ugglas" around the same time Dan got traded away. Hell, I can't even win when I buy a jersey with nobody's name on it like I did last year...... Well, you know what happened this offseason....
February 11, 201313 yr Stanton for now. It's not like picking Babe Ruth on the 1927 Yankees. I'm not gonna' make up some contrived interest in anyone else over Stanton. Wants the point of following the next prospect if they don't or can't sign THE prospect? . All-time..initially I thought Conine on account of his roots, leadership from the start, that throw from left in 2003 10 years later, and ongoing work.....but in the end my favorite all-time player is the one who produces the most excitement mixed with skill...and Conine was good but not great in skill or excitement(apart from the throw and the ASG home run). Pierre(work ethic/speed) is in the 2nd-4th mix with Cabrera and Dontrelle/A.J Burnett. Castillo wins easily for years of HOF calibre fielding skill and years of excitement watching his craftsmanship with a bat.
February 11, 201313 yr I don't have a favorite Marlin because Im a Marlins fan... I cheer for the laundry, not the players. A few years ago, someone was whining about Marlins' trades and roster turnover, so I checked every team and it turned out that, excluding pitchers, only the Phillies had 5 guys on their 25-man who were also there 5 years prior. Including pitchers, it was only another team or two that qualified. Every team turns over, constantly. In the '60s, when the season ended you pretty much knew the same 25 guys would be back the next year outside of maybe one or two new guys up from the farm or the rare guy getting traded. They were YOUR guys. Almost fixtures. People don't like change. I know I didn't back in the late '70s, when free agency resulted in high turnover, starting in '75. Even though FA and very high turnover has been the routine case for most of today's fans' entire lives as fans, they still don't like it. Fans have to ignore the turnover to avoid being disappointed -- after all, it's a bunch of guys with relatively short careers trying to maximize their earnings who don't really care that it disappoints fans. Cheer for the laundry.
February 11, 201313 yr favorites through the years have probably been Lowell and Castillo. The word was that Castillo never studied pitchers, never looked at video, sometimes didn't even know who or where they were getting ready to play as they boarded the team plane. I loved that in 2000 he was a 4+ WAR, slap hitting defensive wizard on-base machine while all the stupid national baseball people made cracks about having 17 RBIs. Right now Stanton of course. Ruggiano is a pretty easy guy to root for. And I've alway liked Nolasco - probably because I'm stupid and feel like he should be better.

February 11, 201313 yr It's funny, I just asked myself this same question the other day. I don't know why I continued rooting for him, but while Hanley was with the team, he was undoubtely my favorite player. It really sucked when we let him go. Back to the subject, putting Stanton aside because that is the easy pick, I think my current favorite is Brantly. All time is Dontrelle Willis.
February 12, 201313 yr Josh Willingham was my favorite Marlin. Wow, I shouldn't have forgotten him. He was really one of my favorites, partially because he was far more productive than more heralded teammates and also because he seemed to really play like Jeff Conine part II.

He was really one of my favorites, partially because he was far more productive than more heralded teammates and also because he seemed to really play like Jeff Conine part II. He was really fan friendly like Conine, too. I remember multiple occasions at spring training in Ft. Lauderdale when he went to both sets of bleachers and signed every single autograph along the fence line, took pictures, and talked and did the same after the games, too. Also saw similar behavior from him during the regular season and at charity events. Really good guy.

My former username here was based upon him. He was the last of my fanboyism. I no longer like players -- just teams.
