April 9, 201313 yr If they were both healthy, i would move kouzmanoff to third and silverio to left with Pierre platooning. Solano to the bench and Polanco to second. What has Solano done to deserve a benching?

April 9, 201313 yr Braves did what they're supposed to do which is take care of a much weaker team. But Piazza31 told me that the Marlins will finish ahead of the Braves this season.
April 9, 201313 yr When does silverio become a marlin? We sure could use him. When he isn't injured, could be a long time.
April 9, 201313 yr I hope they hand cyanide pills at the ballpark tomorrow. I may be tempted to take one halfway through the game. Got tickets for Wednesday night too. I don't understand how anybody can be frustrated with the performance of the team when it was pretty clear that it was going to be a massive piece of shit months ago. When the Marlins started filling the roster with guys like Juan Pierre and Placido Polanco I pretty much knew then that there was no reason to have any emotional investment in the outcomes of any of the games.

This team will not be competitive and calling him up now was just stupid

April 9, 201313 yr Braves did what they're supposed to do which is take care of a much weaker team. But Piazza31 told me that the Marlins will finish ahead of the Braves this season.I still think they will, and I also said the pitching wasnt as bad as you thought. Give me credit where it's due, the starting pitching has been good, if not great. Better by leaps and bounds then last year at this point.

It's his rule v status, they are stashing him on the DL to try to avoid giving him a roster spot this year on the daily 25 man. As bad as Coghlan can be, he at least is healthy and capable of being sent down without losing him. Silvero has to be offered back to LA if he's not on the roster.
April 9, 201313 yr 14 run-scored thru 7 games. Except one 7 run-scored game, we were totally 7 run-scored thru 6 games. So awesome. How about re-signing Carlos Lee? He is still FA.

They've played a week's worth of games. That sampling size is so minuscule that it can be no means considered an indicator of how well the pitching will perform over the long run--good or bad.
April 9, 201313 yr How about re-signing Carlos Lee? He is still FA. He's not really an upgrade over any of the present options. He's terrible.
April 9, 201313 yr If they were both healthy, i would move kouzmanoff to third and silverio to left with Pierre platooning. Solano to the bench and Polanco to second. What has Solano done to deserve a benching? The inexplicable 3 hit, 1 bb game aside, hes been pretty awful. .497 OPS(.211/.286/.211). Hes going to keep getting more and more exposed too. And before you say "well Stantons been pretty bad too!", there are expectations of him getting it going. Donovan Solano's entire career in the minors suggests he is going to be very bad against MLB pitching, because he was very bad against MiLB pitching. No power, never got on base, never hit for average. The only thing he has going for him is he doesnt strike out much, but he doesnt draw walks or make good contact much either. Dont let the aberration of last year when no one had ever seen the guy cloud your judgement...Solano should not be a starter in Major League Baseball, even on a very bad team. Its a stretch to even say he has enough talent to be a bench guy on a mediocre team. The sooner the Marlins can replace him, the better.
April 9, 201313 yr Opening Night used to be an event, win or lose. Last night seemed just like any other game, inside and outside the ball park. (Because of the fireworks, maybe the same as any Saturday game.) Quite the letdown, IMO. No big fanfare, no hype, no anything. Did they blow the budget on that 9er-to-Mikey-to-Rob display? Only funny thing....... They put up "Dale Marlins" on the lighted ribbon at the start of the game. Confused me at first who the heck Dale Marlins is, when I figured it must be Spanish (maybe Go Marlins?). Asked everyone around us and imagine my surprise when I found myself in the heart of Miami and not one person anywhere around me spoke Spanish.
April 9, 201313 yr How about re-signing Carlos Lee? He is still FA. He's not really an upgrade over any of the present options. He's terrible. He'd also take up 2 spots on the roster since he's a friggin' walrus.
April 9, 201313 yr I was there. Just some thoughts. Mainly what I want to say is that the game presentation was absolutely awful from the outset. First off, no flyover. Really lame. I'd be interested to know how many teams did not have a flyover on opening night. A huge let down when the anthem is over and everyone is looking up only to be left looking up and getting nothing. Second, no organ grinder, only very scarce prerecorded organ music including "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". I can't remember going to a Marlins game, ever, and there not being one. And I've been to over 200 Marlins games. In fact, the sound affects played by the stadium were very limited all together. A few prerecorded "dayos" and a hell of a lot of "charge" horns. Walkup songs were even very limited. Announcements from PA were also limited to announcing players and changes. Almost nothing at all between innings. Two "games" with members of the crowd and the sea creature race. That's it. These two things did not help a crowd who seemed completely uninterested in the game as a whole from the start to get going. The Hechavarria catch and one point where they showed a group of Marines in Japan were perhaps the only time I heard the crowd actually cheer loudly. I can't ever remember being at a Marlins game, even one where we didn't score, that the crowd didn't cheer loudly more than once for happenings on the field. The Conine/Lowell/Brantly relay didn't even get a good reaction. In stadium graphics were also very mixed up. A few times, they put up a graphic for the wrong player on the boards. I remember once they put up Solano's name and picture while Hechavarria was hitting and Brantly's when Dobbs was hitting. Also, a few times during short ABs including a Ruggiano one pitch out, the graphic didn't make it to the board until after the player was out and the teams were in the process of switching. They used the same exact pregame video package of "great Marlins moments" that they used last year and just spliced in a few highlights from last year, including the stadium opening and Stanton's walk off GS and the same ribbon banner graphics from last year. For about 70% of the game, they didn't even change the ribbon graphics, just left them on a Pepsi graphic that said "Dale Marlins", whatever that means. The in game closed captioning was also very terrible. Thank God I am not deaf (although the deaf probably didn't miss much during this game) but I don't know how I'd feel as a casual fan trying to describe a player I saw to my friends as "E Stan Carlos Stanton" only to be informed it's Giancarlo Stanton. I wasn't expecting much from the on field product and I was actually counting on a loss so I wasn't disappointed by that. My beef was with the complete lack of interest and care shown by the franchise not to at least make the game seem interesting. It's enough that Loria doesn't seem to give a s*** about fielding a good team. Does he have to take it to the limit of not trying to at least present a fun atmosphere for ticket buyers too? All in all, it was just an atmosphere at a game I've never experienced before: fans uninterested and all expecting a loss and careless and lazy presentation that did nothing to try to change that state of mind. I've been to a handful of Florida Panthers games this year and while the team is one of the worst in the league and many fans probably go expecting a loss, the franchise works to make the game fun and interesting in a variety of ways. There was none of that tonight. Almost like the organization was content with sending fans home unhappy. In any business, even if your product is failing, you should attempt to keep your customers happy and smiling. Not only did the Marlins not but they didn't even try. There was zero fan fare, zero hype, zero excitement, and zero sense of making this a night to remember like Opening Day should be. Instead, this seemed like a game in September where everyone is just counting down to the end of the year. I said to my girlfriend who doesn't go to many games and who I glanced over at only to see her with her chin leaning on her hand, expressionless (and she likes baseball) for most of the game, that in the 20 years I've been going to baseball games, many of them Marlins games, this was, as a whole, definitely one of the worst I've ever been to. I'm sticking to that. Maybe I'm alone in all of this. I don't know. But to me, it was just a very frustrating, odd, and disheartening night at the ballpark. Then I get home and read this crap about people getting kicked out for t-shirts and I'm even more pissed off. There was no way in hell there was more than 20,000 there and I think I know why: I'm more than sure this is an all time low for this franchise.
April 9, 201313 yr The flyover is likely not a Marlin decision. - http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/federal-eye/wp/2013/04/01/sequester-hits-baseball-opening-day-festivities/ The organist is in the process of being replaced after the old one resigned.
