April 9, 201313 yr Samson disagrees with you Benched: “We go through games during the course of a season, it is not uncommon to have ejections of people who drink too much, do too much. Overall it is hard to, even for certain people, it is hard to put a negative spin on tonight's game other than the fact that we did not win and got two hits.''
April 9, 201313 yr Braves did what they're supposed to do which is take care of a much weaker team. But Piazza31 told me that the Marlins will finish ahead of the Braves this season.I still think they will, and I also said the pitching wasnt as bad as you thought. Give me credit where it's due, the starting pitching has been good, if not great. Better by leaps and bounds then last year at this point. You can't be serious. They've played a week's worth of games. That sampling size is so minuscule that it can be no means considered an indicator of how well the pitching will perform over the long run--good or bad. Dead. Serious. Cue "The Who" Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh
April 9, 201313 yr The flyover is likely not a Marlin decision. - http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/federal-eye/wp/2013/04/01/sequester-hits-baseball-opening-day-festivities/ The organist is in the process of being replaced after the old one resigned. Fine. Then use PA, your in game "hosts", the energy team (who only appeared once to throw out t-shirts and once to "dance"), the mascot, whatever else to get the crowd involved. Most of the in between inning time was full of absolutely nothing. The first few innings, I think people were waiting for something to happen only to get nothing. They didn't even use the scoreboard a lot. Just scarce shots of the crowd, a kiss cam, and a dance cam. That's it. Sound was limited to a bunch of garbage rap music. I got there when the gates opened. During BP, the PA announcer was non existent, they weren't counting down to first pitch, nothing. It hit 7:00 and they announced the anthem. That was it. It was all just very odd for any game but especially so for the first game of the year. I almost couldn't believe the lack of effort that went into this. Afterwards, we went to dinner and were talking about it and even my girlfriend, who like I said doesn't go to many games said "I thought there was more to baseball games than that". I had to explain to her that there usually is and the position of the franchise right now and that they probably just don't care. Loria probably figures public opinion of him can't get much worse and apparently, he's fine with being hated so why spend money trying to make it better? I'm leaning towards the side of things that this guy needs to be pushed out of baseball, not only because of personnel spending but after last night, if this is how things are going to be for people who spend money to see this team and taxpayers who are spending money for this stadium. It's unfair, ridiculous, and borders on robbery.

"Yeah, the game sucked, we didn't do shit to make it fun or memorable, and we don't care because you hate us anyways"?

"Yeah, the game sucked, we didn't do s*** to make it fun or memorable, and we don't care because you hate us anyways"? I was kidding of course! The intros from a TV standpoint were absolutely dreadful.
April 9, 201313 yr Another thing: the base lines and batters boxes were not on the field and were still being put down while the intros were being done and while the anthem was being sung. Not sure if anyone else noticed this but it had to look awful on TV, seeing a bunch of grounds crew members running around while players were being introduced. I also think they over-wet the infield. I remember saying to a few people how the infield looked a bit muddy and how you could see footprints being left in it early on. The whole night was just a borderline disaster.
April 9, 201313 yr The whole night was just a borderline disaster. This seems to be the fishies MO the past few years.
April 9, 201313 yr I question letting a no-pop Hech hit with 2 on and 2 out in the 9th when you have a power hitter (Miguel Olivo) available on the bench. That was about the only fault I could see with Redmond. Otherwise, this team can't hit. Glad to see Slowey doing well though...I liked him when he was a Twin.

I'm sure Olivo would've struck out on 3 pitches. I'm so happy he didn't get a chance to hit. Hopefully he never hits again. Or plays again. He sucks so much, and only makes this team less likable. The Marlins should've at least brought in players who didn't suck their first time here. Like Juan Pierre. He sucks now, but at least he was here in 2003 so fun memories.

Hech struck out and looked completely overmatched by Kimbrel. Olivo probably would have struck out too...but there would have at least been the hope/chance that he could run into a pitch and hit it out. I thought the reason they brought up Skipworth was to be able to use Olivo as a bat off the bench.....if not 2 outs/2 on/down 2-0 in the 9th...when else are you going to use him?

So you would've been for Willis?
April 9, 201313 yr Speaking of Juan Pierre, he has to be the odd man out I'd imagine when Yelich gets called up. I love JP to death, but he is pretty bad and such a liability with that arm.
April 9, 201313 yr it's funny, this team isn't really even built for small-ball either. let's see... base stealers? a 35 year-old JP. Ruggs maybe 10-12? anyone else? who do you trust to hit-&-run? Polanco maybe? anyone else? can anyone draw a walk? Stanton will get a bunch just because.
April 9, 201313 yr I feel like Deja vu..been following this team for ~17 years, and I'm tired to be blindly following and being treated like an abused wife going back for more. History will probably repeat, mid season Samson will come out and say this team should be able to compete and fire the manager and bring another rookie manager on board. I have turned sour against this team. I don't want to hear or see anyone complaining about attendance (Tommy Hutton included)

I love JP to death, but he is pretty bad and such a liability with that arm. yeah absolutely, or give Ruggs a rest now & then. Maybe a team in the running for the playoffs can use JP for depth/bench or something in the stretch run. That's also why I'm hoping Silverio isn't too far off. I would like to have seen 200 at-bats or something from him this year, but once Yelich is up they're obviously going to start him. We'll see how Yelich does in AA I guess first.
April 9, 201313 yr Thats what I was saying last night. If we can get them healthy I would like to see Kouzmanoff at third with Silverio in left. The put solano in the utility role and pierre platooning. Polanco to second. This adds a lot more power and makes our bench stronger as well.
April 9, 201313 yr We can win 10 games this season and Redmond will manage the 2014 team. Ok maybe not but you get the point.

Cue "The Who" Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh so you legitimately believe the marlins will finish ahead of the braves? i will give you 10 to 1 odds. if braves finish with a better record than the marlins, you pay me $100. if marlins finish with a better record than the braves, i'll pay you $1,000. since you're dead serious, this should be a no-brainer for you. let me know if you're interested.
April 9, 201313 yr The atmosphere was so dead last night. The highlight of the game was listening to the 2 drunk 15 year olds next to us heckling our own player. Like Benched, I noticed how shitty everything was. Nobody cared z from fans to management
April 9, 201313 yr The biggest applause last night came on Dan Uggla's error. That's what it has come to. Slash payroll and use the money for new grass. I'd like to take a big hot dump on the owners face

Piazza says that the Marlins will finish in second place ahead of the Braves, Phillies, and Mets. He sounds pretty confident so I can't imagine why he wouldn't take you up on that bet.
April 9, 201313 yr I'm not sure why anyone thought this season would include consistent victories. The team is awful as currently constructed. It was just thrown together without any real plan. We should not be cheering for victory, only for improvement from our young players and good effort from all.
