6/18 Postgame thread we lost

Featured Replies

Eovaldi was solid.

F***ing Goldschmidt. Had a feeling something bad was going to happen in that inning there which is what usually happens in these close games.

the worst thing is i think we could trade qualls and get a prospect. like a c+ guy for him.

Did Eovaldi really hit 99mph on the gun? Not sure about that.

Why not? He throws hard.

Polanco really shouldn't be batting in the top half of the order. I mean, what is it about a 229/288/261 line that suggests he should be getting the second most opportunities to bat in a game?

Eovaldi's average velocity on his fastball last night was 96.9. Last year it was 94.1. He also threw 53 fastballs...sheesh only 17 sliders, 10 curves and 3 changeups. If he can get that changeup going he could be really really nasty.

Also it looks like his fastball topped out at 97 last year. Tonight it was 99. I wonder if the gun was jacked cause last night was a pretty serious increase

I mean, it looked legit to me. Just watching, you could see the velocity.

As I have been saying for a while, Eovaldi has the best pure stuff in the rotation with the exception of Fernandez. As long as he keeps his pitch count in check and has command, he is very good.

How was the command on that 97-98 mph pitch

It was great. His only real fastball mistake was a 94mph meatball down the middle that went for the donger. His command of his off speed stuff is another story. That was not so great

Why is everyone so obsessed with the speed of his fastball? the fact is he throws it too much, and has no control with secondary pitches. a fastball velocity is exciting in person but it is not an indicator at all of how great of a pitcher he is. until he gets a reliable second and third pitch he will not be an effective pitcher in the major leagues. keep in mind his curve with his fastball and slider might just be that pitch to make him great. but for now he is very replaceable.

Honestly, with the pitchers we have coming through the system, I'd love Eovaldi in the bullpen in a year or two.

Hes only 23. I'd rather him get those secondary pitches under control and be a starter. Hes got a great slider when it's working.

Can't disagree with that, I think that his performance coupled with how the likes of Alvarez, Turner, Heaney etc. perform will determine how it all ends up. If they prove to be better suited for the Marlins as starters then Eovaldi could be a very good option out of the bullpen. Whatever makes the team better.

Only time will tell, but it would be a good problem to have.

every pitcher on the team should be a starter, just have some of the starters in the bullpen just in case.
