But he's not a third baseman, so I don't understand why this would piss him off, even metaphorically.

I will agree, though, a .473 slugging with not much power being shown is pretty good!

Its really low level, but I still think, assuming he can maintain that general level of production, that he could be the 2B in the future, not Dietrich. Dietrich may have the power but he can't hit consistently at all. Romero is a guy who can hit for avg, and get a bit of pop. Not too much, but ill take a guy who can get on base consistently over someone who reminds me of a Dan Uggla without the ability to draw walks.

Kind of a local product, so that's always good as well.

Weird, MiLB has him listed at 3B but I do see he's been playing 2B. Either way, valuable to us at either position...

Last year I remember seeing him play 2b, SS and 3b with the GCL team, looks like pretty much only played second with a few DH spots. I think he projects as a second baseman given his size, good to see his numbers he's putting up

Question: What is keeping Brent Keys from having his own thread?

He would keep walking out of it.

Ahhhhh. I see what you did there! 'Cause he walks a lot!

they need to promote him already. I was actually unaware that he was doing so well (i knew keys was) so very happy this thread was made. Very very very very happy.

I know it's unlikely, but it'd be cool if he could develop a bit of speed or power (or both) to be maybe a 15/20 guy. He's obviously good at making contact thus far, if he could bring up some power or something, too, that'd be amazing. As I mentioned earlier, slugging over .450 with barely any power is pretty good stuff. I'll take what he's got now, obviously, if it translates, no doubt about it.

Don't get greedy, foo.

Speed ain't going to come if its not there.

Power, however, could. That's more of a wait and see...

Slowed down a bit, like .175 in his last 10 games.

Still, should see Greensboro at the very least next year, especially with the lack of middle infield prospects

Romero is in Greensboro now, played second base last night, batted second - went 2-5 with a double, a run scored, and 2 RBI.

cool. he clearly had conquered that level. hopefully he can be our 2b in the future. looks promising.

His average dropped under .300 and slugging dropped to .414 (was over .450 at one point) - I mean, hey, if he can adjust and get it going again, then great.

Speaking of 2b, Dietrich has turned it on again in AA. .828 OPS in August.

Moran also tearing it up lately

Our AAA catchers have started to turn it on as well.

.994 OPS!

...combined.

For those that don't know. It is not easy to hit home runs when you are being told you have to take the first strike. Every pitch after that is off speed. If you look at the home run totals for the Muckdogs you will see there aren't many home runs being hit. If you followed Romero like I do, you will also see that most of his hits have been center to right field. That is what the Marlins wanted him to work on. I think now that he is in Greensboro and hopefully if he gets a chance to free swing, you will see his power numbers come up. By the way, I don't think Avery cares what position he plays as long as he is playing.

Romerosfriend?

There is a place in our organization that tells the kids to take the first pitch? Why doesn't every aspect of our organization do that?

No no, first strike. Much different. Every pitch after that is breaking balls. :p

major slide for sure. this thread grounded the kid. he hasn't done much of anything all of August. 5 hr and 3 sb in 101 games for his career doesn't jump out. off to a slow start in Greesboro as well .167 ba after 5 games. hope he gets it on track because he was looking very promising as a consistent hitter. any idea about his defense?
