August 1, 201412 yr This rule has become more about giving a clear path to the runner than protecting the catcher... I think that's what bothers me most about it. Catcher is the only one having to make concessions when they're the ones this rule was intended to protect. F***in pussy baseball.
August 1, 201412 yr Bryan Price isn't lying (well other than the "blocking the plate all the way" line. He only blocked the plate when he had to actually get the ball). The call as currently interpreted was right. It's the rule that sucks. Even Price says he wants the rules back to the way they were. I wouldn't go that far, but the interpretation has to be clarified to give the catcher a fighting chance to actually make a play on a ball. No I don't agree at all with Bryan Price, he clearly didn't see the play correctly. If in order to field the ball, if the catcher has to move into the line of the runner (which is the case here) then the catcher is fine. That's 100% what happened here and some umpire in New York was clueless. I have no idea what they're even thinking. The rule is not "can't block the runner end of story". He just can't block the runner until he has the ball. He did not move in front of him until basically had to in order to field the ball. There should be no issue here. He didn't catch the ball and then stand in front of him for 5 seconds, he caught it, turned, and put the tag up. I'm so baffled as to what their reasoning is here.

I hate what Price said but I was thinking of his situation and what he should said and I kinda think he prepared what he said on purpose. Think of it. To go out and say the Reds got a cheap win would be a slap in the face to his team and could be trouble for him. Maybe the plan was ... Defend ur players BUT purposely act like u saw the play wrong so that ur defending ur players on the technicality that u saw the play wrong. Possibly a slick move by Bryan Price. Still though, Fuck him.

August 1, 201412 yr I don't get how the umpiring staff on the field has absolutely zero say in this. I think this is actually one of the more logical repercussions of this. That there will be some system where the on field crew chief can overrule the monkeys in NY. That seems like a realistic first step.
