December 17, 201411 yr I think a lot of how we do this season depends on whether or not Jose will be back at midseason, and what McGehee does compared to last year. You have to expect some regression. Morse is an improvement at 1st. I'm not super confident in Gordon. We also have no idea if Haren is going to pitch for this team or not. That's something that will also have an impact.
December 17, 201411 yr Just thought of something terrifying: with Dee Gordon batting first and Giancarlo third, how often will Red take the bat right out of our second best player's (Yelich) hands by calling a bunt? First inning nightmare: Dee Gordon single. Christian Yelich bunt. Lather, rinse, repeat. Actually shouldn't be too many considering Gordon will be stealing all the bases.
December 17, 201411 yr Actually shouldn't be too many considering Gordon will be stealing all the bases. This. I envision Dee stealing and a Yelich line drive single brings him in. And it's 1-0 in the first.
December 17, 201411 yr Also, I made a Black Mirror reference in another thread and thought you of all people would appreciate it. JackRubysDog: needs bushier eyebrows.

December 17, 201411 yr Just read this Would the Marlins trade McGehee before the season? The Giants are shopping and they are reportedly interested,,, The Giants could use their Minor League pitching surplus to trade for a third baseman. Among those who could be available include Cleveland's Lonnie Chisenhall, Miami's Casey McGehee and Boston's Will Middlebrooks. Chisenhall, 26, established numerous career highs in 2014, including games (142), batting average (.280), on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS, .770), home runs (13) and RBIs (59). But he ranked 23rd among Major League third basemen with a -10.7 UZR (ultimate zone rating), which measures a fielder's success at reaching batted balls determined to be in his zone of the field. By comparison, the recently departed Pablo Sandoval ranked 10th best this year with a 3.5 UZR for the Giants, according to fangraphs.com. McGehee, 32, won the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award by hitting .287 with 76 RBIs in 160 games after playing in Japan during 2013. He also recorded a -1.6 UZR, 17th best at his position. Middlebrooks, 26, became potentially expendable with Boston's acquisition of Sandoval. His batting average has dwindled annually since 2012, from .288 to .227 to .191. His OPS also has slid from .835 to .696 to .522. He compiled a -0.6 UZR in 63 games this year. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/104174972/trade-looking-more-likely-as-giants-eye-third-base-answer
December 17, 201411 yr If the Marlins trade McGeHee to SF for a pitcher maybe Okart or Kickham I would look to trade Haren maybe in a 3-way trade with the Angels and Boston for Garin Cecchini BTW the price on Cecchini will be pretty high
December 17, 201411 yr The now would be who replaces McGehee? Your only legit option was Canha and they let him go. That's so frustrating.

December 17, 201411 yr Canha wasn't a real option at 3B was he? If I remember right, his brief time at 3B didn't go so well. I would fignite he would've been the most realistic option. With Moran gone, what do you have? Anderson is a year away at least.
December 17, 201411 yr I would fignite he would've been the most realistic option. With Moran gone, what do you have? Anderson is a year away at least. Anderson is more like 2 years away

December 17, 201411 yr I feel like that was a little short-sighted to let him go Rule V. Couldn't agree more. He obviously had value considering he was drafted and then immediately traded.

December 17, 201411 yr Would love to have some Cox along with that Dee... Too bad Johnson is no longer on this team.
December 17, 201411 yr Author Would love to have some Cox along with that Dee... Too bad Johnson is no longer on this team. Penis Williams would be a good FA signing for this team. Maybe Dick Van Dyke?
December 17, 201411 yr I really wish we weren't so committed to Mcgehee at third for next season. I understand he was "comeback player of the year" but that award is mostly for the story and i think most of us can agree we will have below average production out of him next season and it sucks we won't be proactive and realize this ahead of time. rather, we will trot him out there for 2 months, he will struggle like he did for most of last year and the front office will be shocked.

December 17, 201411 yr Or he has less pressure on his shoulders now that we have a real lineup and he continues to succeed? McGehee is a major league hitter. I wouldn't be upset if they allowed him to bat second and slide everyone down a spot, either. Yelich is ready to bat third, break up the lefties, Stanton clean up, Morse fifth, Ozuna sixth, Salty seventh, and Hech eighth.

Yelich is ready to bat third, break up the lefties, Stanton clean up, Morse fifth, Ozuna sixth, Salty seventh, and Hech eighth. McGehee's prevalence for double plays would make him a bad fit for that #2 spot. Breaking up lefties is more important when it involves power hitters or guys with rough platoon splits. Yelich and Gordon both hit lefties fine, so teams bringing in lefty relievers to face them won't be an issue. McGehee should ideally hit somewhere further down the lineup. Here's what I would do if I had the opportunity: Yelich Gordon Stanton Morse Ozuna McGehee Salty Hech
December 17, 201411 yr Also, I made a Black Mirror reference in another thread and thought you of all people would appreciate it. JackRubysDog: You mean the pig fucking? Well, that was on about three years ago over this side of the pond. Do keep up.

His speed makes that point not only moot, but it kind of makes his batting second a strength by creating hit and run opportunities or unintentionally advancing the runner because Gordon has the speed to break up any double play opportunity and make it s fielders choice. That's assuming he isn't already on second via stolen base.
