3/31 Roster Reduction

Featured Replies

Valdespin and Brignac are gone....looks like Donovan Soloano and Don Kelly will make the opening day roster

per Clark Spencer

DAMN IT! I'm sorry, but I REALLY don't want to see Solano on our team again. We've seen enough of him and he is just not impressive!

Nick Masset released; Tyler Colvin, Reid Brignac & Cole Gillespie reassigned to minor lg camp. 30 players remain in ML camp

So Valdespin isn't gone?

That's really unexpected, I am surprised we didn't use that opportunity to keep McK.

This.

Why wouldn't you keep McKirahan if you can stash Dyson in AAA? Very strange. They could certainly use Dunn and sometimes Hand against RHP if needed (let alone they don't need a 5th SP much so Koehler is coming out of the pen a few times likely).

I hope not, he's been good this ST.

Valdespin and Jhonatan Solano have not been sent down but both were informed they will begin the year at AAA so with this, McKirahan being put on waivers, and Crow going to the DL, the Opening Day Roster has been finalized. The actual transactions will be made at a later date.

To be fair, Solano is probably not worse than the alternatives. It's a pretty irrelevant spot on the roster, anyway. Fortunately, he's not starting anymore.

Would have gone with Brignac over Solano because of Brignac's ability to play third and OF and definitely over Kelly because he outplayed him this spring. Think Brignac got hosed. But whatever.

April 5th: "Dee Gordon has retired from baseball, Donovan Solano to start at second for Miami."

Makes my Solano for NL MVP prediction much more likely!

Brignac is pretty bad too though. All of these players are bad.

Actually, Valdéspin has had a really good spring. He deserved to be on the roster not Solano.

Good Spring doesn't outweigh a bad career though. That being said, Donovan Solano is awful at sports.

I love the quote from Redmond the other day that said Solano was versatile and has had success in the major leagues. Solano and success are to words that don't go together.

He also said something like Solano each year he's been in the big leagues has earned himself a starting spot. What a twisted way to look at his career. The guy has only been in the right place at the right time when all our other options haven't come together.
