August 7, 201511 yr Andre Dawson - I don't care that he doesn't have "managerial experience".. would bring instant credibility to the clubhouse. Terrible choice and also won't be him
August 8, 201511 yr Manager credibility doesn't come from name value alone. Dawson doesn't strike me as a good manager type. Like Das said, Ryne Sandberg is a good example of this. Paul Molitor seems like one positive exception to this as of late. If anything, if he cared for the job, I think Conine might be a good zero experience manager. Besides that, it's about more than just name value.
August 8, 201511 yr Molitor is a little different though, he was their bench coach for some 3 years or so about 10 years ago, and was one of the candidates to manage for them when Gardy got the job. He didnt want it at the time due to his kids being young and not necessarily wanting to travel. But the time was right for him now and the Twinkies jumped at it this time. So I think its a bit of a different situation, though honestly, I thought Sandberg would do better as a big league manager, but his problem was with the veterans and not being able to find a common ground with them. The younger players from all reports had no problems with him (which makes sense giving his minor league career managing), but the veterans truly hated him.

August 8, 201511 yr At this point just go all in with the search. seems like they have their man, sign him up already and let him manage the final stretch. Get a jump start on him meshing with the players and coaching staff.
August 8, 201511 yr Yeah I know Conine won't be it because he won't take it and I guess it's just hypothetical at this point but is it just my Marlins favoritism kicking in when I think Conine would be a good manager? He just seems to have both the knowledge and the demeanor for the job. And Das, good info on Molitor, I didn't realize his prior coaching experience. Is it too soon to debate on Walt Weiss? Feels like he's not cut out for the job but he's also been riddled with faulty rosters since day one. Almost like he hasn't had a fair shake yet. I felt like Manny Acta had a bad hand too in his Washington days. Shit, I think I'm on a random manager rant.

If the Marlins are as dead set on their target as I think they are, why wait especially considering how little Jennings is getting from the team? Its not like they'd be replacing a respected manager who's on his way out admirably. Would a head start be beneficial or not ?

Anything, even replacing him with Jessica Blaylock, is beneficial to get Jennings to stop 'managing' this team.

Besides that, it's about more than just name value. I agree with this. I don't care about names, I care if they're good. And that goes for anyone inside the organization including owners, players too for the most part. Just need to right people, not the popular people.

August 8, 201511 yr I'd like to try Riggleman. you mean the guy who quit on his team? i'd rather not honestly.

August 8, 201511 yr You are assuming the coaching staff would remain the same Any guess on which ones if any at all change?
August 8, 201511 yr Any guess on which ones if any at all change? Nope, it'd be up to the new manager for the most part
August 8, 201511 yr Idk who the next manager will be, but i can guarantee you he will have no knowledge of analytics, platoons, or reliever splits.

There's a current target, doesn't mean everything ends up that way.
August 8, 201511 yr There is literally no one in this organizations front office who should still be here. I don't even want the Beinfest was only fired 2 years ago argument, it was still the same front office as it was before. Everyone from the front office, scouting department, player development department, and coaches should all be fired. We don't draft or do baseball business well, our scouting department is absolutely abysmal, and we can't develop players worth shit. The entire organization is a shit storm and we need to find someone analytically minded in charge of baseball operations and have him build his organization from the top down.

August 8, 201511 yr I would love it if Jerry Dipoto became our GM. Just saying because his name was recently brought up, but that would be great.
