who going be next manger???

Featured Replies

Riggleman doesnt surprise me. Loria and Co have always liked him. Think they wanted to interview him prior to the Red hiring.

They should have hired him instead of Guillen IMO.

CM Punk would be a good manager.

I don't understand why so many feel that managers actually have a significant impact. If the team is good, it's going to be good, and if the team is bad, it's going to be bad regardless of who the manager is.

Couldn't care less who we hire, to be honest. It's not going to mean anything unless we shore up the starting pitching depth.

It's slobbering time!!!!!!!!!!!

i think this jennings experience proves you cant literally put someone with absolutely zero experience in professional ball (player or coach) at all into the role.

It may be that manager is only really the PR face of the team, but if it truly only brings more mental that actual tangible results, I still want the fans and the players to have a manager we feel confident about, if only to prevent a negative if we can't promoting a positive

I agree manager doesnt matter much at all (although Jennings is proving that wrong to an extent), but what the marlins really need is to not fire their manager every 6 months for once.

Managers matter, they decide on the lineup each day, they decide which relievers to bring in and when, they decide when to issue intentional walks, when to bunt, when to steal. ALL those things have an effect on the result of each game.

While Miami in 2015 was going to suck this year regardless of who managed it, a manager can and does make a difference in a few games. And very often, a few games DO decide if a team makes or misses the playoffs.

As a Marlins fan, you should know best that managers do matter. Just think of the 2003 World Series as one example. It was Jack's decision to start Beckett in Game 6 on short rest. Would the Marlins have won game 6 otherwise?  Maybe, nobody knows.  Would they have won Game 7 if they lost Game 6?  its possible. But what we DO know is Beckett went on short rest and pitched a CG shutout to clinch the series. Another manager maybe doesn't start Beckett there and everything could be different.

I think most managers would have started Beckett in Game 6, to be honest.

I'm not saying managers do absolutely nothing, but what ultimately decides whether or not a team wins is how good the players are. The manager's impact is minimal.

Look at Terry Francona, for example. The guy was looked at as a genius in Boston. Now he's on the hot seat in Cleveland. Why? Because his Indians team isn't as good as those Red Sox teams. Has nothing to do with Francona's managing ability.

I seem to remember most people questioning that decision before the game started.  Analysts and fans included.  Other managers didn't speak up if I remember correctly but the majority of people that did -- questioned it.  Most said it didn't make sense since the fish were up 3-2 and it'd back them into a corner if the Beckett did not pitch well in game 6.

But it's not like Jack invented the idea of pitching on short rest. That's fairly common in the playoffs.

Yes, but its usually done when a team is facing elimination. The Marlins were up 3-2.  I would've started Beckett but it was a bold decision.  And regardless, the fact that there is no 100% on that in either direction proves the impact of managers.

Yes a managers impact is minimal... But minimal on a good team is like 3-4 games. so lets say the impact is like going from 86 wins to 90 wins? THAT is a HUGE impact in today's game.

So yes, minimal impact matters. Thus managers matter.

Most Mngrs would have have done what Bochy did with MadBum last year at the WS start your reg pitcher but have him on a short leash and bring your ace as a long reliever to shut off and complete the win.

That's what I think

Managers do a lot more than just what goes on between the lines.

I dont get the dismissal of the manager role, its like some think literally anybody can do that.

If anything, Mr. Tastee has proved thats far from true.
