Hammerhead
The fact that we haven't gone all in on anyone is kinda the most frustrating thing. Between no offer to Lackey and the word that we offered basically nothing for Chapman, it just feels like the front office doesn't really wanna get anyone. We've made more serious pushes for coaches and returning players than we have for any players that will actually help this team improve. Putting on the facade of bringing guys in without actually bringing anyone in
TaiwanMarlins
Yet another AL West club, the Athletics, received more promising news today on their own shoulder-plagued pitcher, righty Henderson Alvarez. He impressed the club with a two-inning sim game, as MLB.com’s Jane Lee reports, though he still may need two more before undertaking a rehab assignment. Soon to turn 26, Alvarez was signed to a one-year, $4.25MM deal in hopes that he’d recover from shoulder surgery and return to the solid form he’s displayed in the past with the Marlins. JUST PERFECT.

Buzz305
Even if he rehabs from the shoulder surgery (which I'm not a genius, but is a major surgery for a pitcher)... he still has the partially-torn ligament in his elbow. He pitched through it and altered his delivery in 2015, which was what blew out his shoulder to begin with. He was one of my favorites, but I don't think it looks good for Hendo :/

Nny
Hendo could not pitch at all ever again and that still would have been money better spent than spending that same amount on these bullpen arms.

Agreed, injury Hendo couldn't damaged us but healthy Narveson and McGowan could.
TaiwanMarlins
Henderson Alvarez looked good in a rehab start on Saturday, andAthletics manager Bob Melvin told reporters (including MLB.com’s Willie Bans) that the righty could be ready to make his A’s debut during a mid-May homestand. Alvarez missed most of 2015 due to shoulder problems that required required last July, and after the Marlins non-tendered him, the A’s inked Alvarez to a one-year deal worth $4MM in guaranteed money. Maybe the judge day is coming soon.
TaiwanMarlins
Athletics righty Henderson Alvarez has suffered a “setback” in his efforts to return from shoulder surgery, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports on Twitter. Oakland had hoped to plug him into the major league rotation in the coming days, but instead Alvarez is headed for an MRI. The 26-year-old had turned in six solid starts in his minor league rehab assignment, leading to hope that he’d provide a boost to an A’s staff that has largely failed to produce quality results thus far. Alvarez’s prognosis remains unclear at this time.

Valid
Such a shame. This kid could have been a damn good pitcher if he stayed healthy. Also, for all of the dumb moves the Marlins have made over the years, this clearly was not one of them, and not even the Marlins would non-tender a pitcher they thought had any shot of getting fully healthy again. It's pretty obvious they saw something they didn't like in his physicals.

Apparently his shoulder had at least a 90% tear and they kept sending him out there.

He signed a contract worth more than he would have gotten in arbitration. Which means he had trade value, but we let him go for nothing. el_gmac
The MRI results on the shoulder of Athletics righty Henderson Alvarez were inconclusive, manager Bob Melvin told reports, including Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle (Twitter links). They’ll be sent for a closer look by Dr. James Andrews, who performed his surgery. As things stand, then, it’s largely unknown when Alvarez will be able to re-start his rehab process and begin working back toward the big league hill
