I don't believe our payroll of next season would AS LOW AS 75M,if I am Loria I would spend AT LEAST 100M.

I really was thinking $80-85 million. Considering $8 million of that is not even playing for us in Salty.

I don't know if the salary that paid to players that no more on the team would belong to the figures of team payroll.

Yeah it all still counts. Especially if it is Loria. They they might have some money in reserves for that #5 pitcher.

I total agreed,to Loria every cent was counts, but for some rich owners this shouldn't be something.

Well, even if the owner is rich and willing to spend money, it counts in the sense that... if the payroll is $120 million and $20 million is owed to a released player, it still is included in the payroll figure. There isn't a "payroll for active guys" and a "payroll for released guys."

Any word on how Lincecum looked today?

If he looked Old, beat up and unreliable...we may actually have a shot :p

I think the ESPN fantasy guys are trolling Loria because they released their projections and have the Marlins SP at this:

Fernandez, 181 IP, 2.83 era, 1.07 whip, 10.69 K/9

Chen, 200 IP, 3.29 era, 1.21 whip, 7.11 K/9

Conley, 162 IP, 3.56 era, 1.26 whip, 7.00 K/9

Koehler, 189 IP, 4.00 era, 1.36 whip, 6.62 K/9

Cosart, 164 IP, 4.01 era, 1.43 whip, 6.15 K/9

Nicolino, 62 IP, 3.63 era, 1.32 whip, 4.06 K/9

Urena, 65 IP, 4.15 era, 1.38 whip, 5.26 K/9

So basically they're just as good as the Indians starters. We've all been wrong guys. Everything is going to be fine. Playoffs.

Oh man I can't take ESPN seriously anymore. If that was our actual projections, I'd take that any day. The Urena numbers are straight laughable.

I bet Loria has already printed that out and taped it on the locker of each of those players, on every door at Marlins Park and Roger Dean Stadium, above every urinal in every bathroom, on every employee's desk, on every seatback in the ballpark, etc. with a big "TOLD YOU SO" in Sharpie at the top of each paper.

You know,in the best case scenario, every team would win the championship in the every season.

I think Chen will surprise this year with a low 2 ERA.. I like Conley. I think we still need to decide between Gallardo and Lincecum.

Gallardo must've murdered someone to still be out there.

Crazy.

I've changed my tune -- I think we're set with ferny, Chen, and Conley. Just need two more.

I think they should trade for a Padres or Dodgers starter, with their main chip taking on cash to alleviate payroll for other teams (Shields is owed $60+, or take A. Wood (4 years of control, not currently in Dodgers top 5 rotation with Kershaw, Kazmir, Anderson, Maeda, and Ryu) and agree to take on one of the expensive Dodgers - McCarthy, Crawford, Ethier, all owed north of $31 to mitigate things. Then "Mike Hampton" that guy to another team to help mitigate that cost). I have to assume there is a deal there if the Marlins throw in some of their "B" starter and reliever prospects, IFA cash, and compensatory picks. Marlins best asset is their low payroll.

Of course, Loria would have to agree to another $10-15 million in payroll in such a scenario and we know he would rather have that than acquire the missing piece.

Urena and Nicolino just came off seasons where they struck out almost the same number of hitters as they walked. That makes it really hard to believe they will be even moderately successful Major League pitchers in 2016 or pretty much ever.

Vegas released MLB season win totals. Think is saw MIA @ 80.5. Seems high but they know more than us I think

That's fair. There is a lot of offensive potential, 50% of their starts will be good, and the bullpen could be really good.

They just need a #2 SP. Just like last year.

Last year was a strange year because every top player on the team spent significant time on the DL. If last years team had stayed healthy they could have won 9 more games to get to 80.

I think we're all a bit worried that this above post is what Loria is banking on and is why he hasn't added much outside of Chen... but it's also quite true. How many more games could we have won if Stanton alone wasn't out as long as he was?

With health, there is definitely talent on this team to be an outside contender.
