True but if Boras is listening as he apparently is, I think a shorter deal is very possible. Boras hasn't shot them down so I'm gonna sit on my prediction.

This may be a long day at work talking.. but his tweet makes absolutely no sense to me.

He senses that they may be talking about a deal, but that is a guess.. and if his guess is right that they are talkin, but he guesses that nothing will come of it? He may as well have just said I like turtles instead.

It's easy. Something like

16 - $417 - $818 - $1319 - $2220 - $26 club option / $3 buyout21 - $27 Club option / $3 buyoutGuaranteed 4/$50, total possible value 6/$100. Add in limited no trade for 4 years.

Kluber got $38.5 guaranteed. Blows him out of the water. This works because Fernandez gets more guaranteed, and the Marlins can escape years 5 and 6 if his elbow explodes. It's some risk on Marlins part paying him that much for 4 years, but it's cheaper than a $250 million contract in 3 years and there is real savings on the $26-27 million figures versus Greinke/Price getting a million a start. This mitigates Jose pretty good. He gets the most guaranteed money ever for a pitcher his service time, he becomes a free agent 27-29 to be eligible for a second amazing pay day, can make $100 million on this deal alone, and the Marlins can escape if need be. No one will blame the Marlins for guaranteeing him that money and this doesn't work out. The juice is worth the squeeze.

My satisfaction meter is trending up if this happens. A 6 year Fernandez deal and Doug Fister/Ian Kennedy/someone else Benedict wants for the # 3/4 SP spot, is an absolutely tremendous offseason throwing in Chen, Gordon extension, and not trading Ozuna, even if Ichiro/Mathis is a bummer. I can forgive them for bench players for now.

Do it.

I wish I could email this to Mike Hill

This guy is awesome.

maybe the QUICK DEAL for Chen has something to do with Boras about the extension of Jose.

That's what I was thinking as well.

It's smart for Fernandez coming off TJ (and also having had the bicep injury also last year ) to sign a long term extension such as what Marlinslou described. He'll make more money the next three years than he more than likely would in arbitration. And he's only giving up 2 years of his free agency. He'll still be a FA again before turning 30.

Also. Frisaro's comment is a tweet. Tweets are conversational. Way too much hatred on here for him. The tweet is fine. It's not misleading. It doesn't have to be written perfectly. He's doing his job right because now we're all talking about this topic.

I like Joe but it was a misleading tweet. He made it sound like he's just guessing maybe they are discussing a long-term deal when in fact he surely knows they are and isn't guessing.

I understand your point. But does it really affect the reader's mindsets because he said guess? Or is it just bothersome because you believe he's  being disingenuous to cover his ass?

Its just odd. I don't know his reason for it since even if he confirmed they are talking, its not like it has to get done for him to be right.

He said "other front office people"... not other people from the Marlins front office, but people from other front offices... meaning, Admin's connections in the Mets front office are probably all over this board.

Yeah Admin I know how to read your cryptic messages. I'm picking up what you're putting down.

I won't name names, but there are members of the Marlins front office that visit this site. Former and current players as well.

Are they influential enough to impact decision-making?
