January 14, 20168 yr Frisaro is the absolute worst. Why? Who says they didn't at least reach out to Jose? all Joe is saying is that it's possible they made an attempt.
January 14, 20168 yr Author Why? Who says they didn't at least reach out to Jose? all Joe is saying is that it's possible they made an attempt. It's dumb for him to be tweeting like that unless he has a hard source to go on. Otherwise it's just baseless speculation. Frisaro is completely worthless now that Admin has sources. We hear everything from him before Frisaro opens his mouth.
January 14, 20168 yr Author Here's the deal on Jose: They are trying to avoid arby with him and have indeed thrown in some mutli-year proposals. Whether those get done is debatable but the positive news is Boras was receptive to the idea this time around.

Just my speculation of course. Getter done!
January 14, 20168 yr Seems too last minute but I'd love if it happened because yay we extend him but almost more importantly we'd be sticking it to everyone who swore we were doing old Marlins things and trading him away for nothing just because we were being cheap. The media (and fan overreactions) was absolutely ridiculous during that time.

They are open to the possibility of just avoiding arby with a one-year deal and then continuing discussions on a longer deal.
January 14, 20168 yr Author TIL Joe is a force user. Sense? wtf I have the feeling he knew but just phrased it that way. I mean if I know, odds are he also knows.
January 14, 20168 yr So bottom line, Jose and Boras are still open to an extension if the terms are right. I'll take that.
January 14, 20168 yr I gotta think they don't even need to overpay at this point. Jose almost shouldn't take any deal because he can basically break the records for pitcher contracts when he hits free agency so he's gonna want to get to that point. So basically the team only has to buy out his arbitration and one, two years of his free agency at most. He's so young that he can do that and still hit free agency very young and still cash in. So it's very possible that they could still work out a deal that benefits all parties involved without breaking the bank. If Jose is receptive and the Marlins plan this out right, this isn't impossible.
January 14, 20168 yr Then he's being a dick. Or he's covering his ass. If he said "confirmed, they're talking" and suddenly nothing happens, he looks worse. I dislike Frisaro, but in this case, I understand why he phrased it as he did.

January 14, 20168 yr Author Or he's covering his ass. If he said "confirmed, they're talking" and suddenly nothing happens, he looks worse. I dislike Frisaro, but in this case, I understand why he phrased it as he did. How does it look bad if he said that the Marlins are trying to negotiate and no deal resulted? I don't follow. Those kinds of scenarios happen all the time and we already know it's happened with Jose/Boras. It's bad reporting. Plain and simple.
January 14, 20168 yr Author Yeah, the fact is they ARE discussing a long-term deal. It isn't likely to happen at least by the arby deadline though. If Frisaro knew this, he should've just said it.
January 14, 20168 yr Author Exactly. There is no good reason to withhold the facts. Otherwise it's just hot air.
January 14, 20168 yr nah dawg. Boras dont let his guys sign Not sure how serious you are but my point was Boras could very well let Jose sign a shorter extension knowing he'll still be able to cash in on the big contract at a very young age. Jose gets some early money, Boras still sees Jose get a mega deal in a few years, and the Marlins gain some stability with their ace for a few more seasons. Everyone wins.
January 14, 20168 yr I get what @pollyvonwog is saying though. Boras knows those FA years are big time money and the fact that Jose is still very young makes it even a bigger deal to not give that up. Any other agent besides Boras and this crap gets done easily. Although this deal can be done if Jose really wants it to get done. Plain and simple.
