6/5 post game

Yeah, there's zero chance Stanton is ever good again.  The only logical thing to do is DFA him Carl Crawford style.

We need a facepalm smiley for some of your posts, Vince.

He will get hot for one week and then that's it. Wanna know what I hope? Stanton is mediocre until the end of August then mightily turns it up for the playoff push.

It's true that no major league game is easy. But that being said if the Marlins have any hope of competing you have to be able to get wins against the teams with losing records. To me the braves thing has been somewhat of an anomaly. So we have the 9 game trip followed by a home stand against Colorado and Atlanta. That's 15 straight games against teams with losing records. You have to capitalize during these stretches.

I totally agree. Those are the best opportunities during a season to get more than a few games over .500 and really show you can compete. We have already shown we can play pretty evenly with the Mets and Nats. The key is can we separate from the bottom of the league and capitalize on those teams.

As I was leaving the ballpark late Friday I was crossing by where the players leave to head to the garages and Jose himself was walking out and some dick Mets fan thought that was a grand time to talk some shit. (It wasn't Admin because he was with a girl) He told Jose to not show up Sunday and to please give up ten runs. A security guard politely told the guy to stop calling out to Jose and the Mets fan (Caucasian) loudly goes "Why? It's not like that guy needs any peace and quiet?" to which Jose calmly turned back and pointed at the guy while smiling and said "It's ok, we're gonna kill them Sunday." ...I waited until post game Sunday to tell that story just to see how accurate it would be. And yes, Jose killed the Mets on Sunday. Fuck that Mets fan.

It's good that Jose (Cuban) was able to live up to his word.

Thanks for the accurate and descriptive story. I initially pictured the mets fan as some Puerto Rican guy but once I read Caucasian, then entire story changed.

See you never know

Too bad too bad.

They probably figured they had too many quality Joses in the organization and needed to let some go. The guy who accounted for double Joses was an obvious choice to cut.

Do you think we get an offensive boost down the stretch?  If so, who? How?

meaning a trade or acquisition?  No.

It comes down to Stanton.  Everyone else is basically doing what we hoped offensively.  Except Hech I suppose but expectations there are pretty low to begin with.

LMAOOOO

Sadly I did too :( and that is coming from a Puerto Rican himself.

Unbelievable how we barely manage to score 5 runs and we can win those games. Stanton is the key to take us over that hump. I hope he DH's a couple of the Twins games. If you wanna be optimistic he faces Nolasco on Wednesday and then they travel to the West Coast starting Friday. We can consider Arizona a west coast team I guess?

To be fair the guy *could* have been Puerto Rican, ya never know, if ya looked at me you'd think I'm a white Jew and not the Cuban/Dominican mix that I am... but the guy didn't have all the tell tale signs of a Puerto Rican outside of being a Mets fan.

Guys I think we just preemptively give one big collective "I'm sorry" to anyone out there who might happen to read this and be offended in any way possible. The last thing someone should ever feel is offended on the internet.

That's what she said!

Everyone is performing either up to expectations or exceeding expectations offensively.

Except for the guy who is supposed to be our best player. I like Stanton, but it's true. If he could heat up, especially in this stretch of 15 games where we're playing teams we're supposed to beat (like, gotta go 10-5 or 9-6 at least), that would be great.

Stanton is capable of single-handedly carrying the offense for a stretch. He's proven that before, and this is a good time to start doing it again.

Someone said it earlier but I do honestly think the 5 losses to the Braves are an anomaly and we do play fine against lesser teams especially outside of our division so I'm quite confident the Marlins can go 6-3 or better on this road trip. Ending the trip at 36-30 would absolutely beautiful for us heading into mid-June. Do that and I think we can really start scoreboard watching. I still don't think we're better than DC or the Mets to take the division but go 6-3 on this trip and we're at least in the hunt.

as a whole, i actually think most of the lineup is outproducing what many rational people would have predicted to start the season (if you could throw out our putrid RISP stats).  Realmuto, Dietrich, OZUNA, and even Prado to this point are all really over expectations.

The longer we stay in the race, the better.

I was gonna say "Thanks Preston" but then I realized Preston might say something more like "Actually, I love when a team falls out of the race because I used to play baseball and I know that it builds character to be on a team that drops out of contention. I was on the losing Marlins teams of the early 2000's along with Mike Redmond and Mike Lowell and I used to play baseball and I think it'd do so much for these players if they didn't contend this season because I used to play baseball."

This is totally Preston.

Are you sure?

What I mean is, the longer we stay in the race, the higher the probability we'll be buyers. Haters.
