I suspect Stanton's problem is that he just doesn't have a very sharp mind. He doesn't know how to adjust to pitchers or read pitches well. If he weren't a professional baseball player, he'd probably be a body guard or something.

Not sure how serious you are but the six seasons before this one wanna disagree with you. It's not like he had one good month in the majors and suddenly can't figure it out. He's had six seasons of hitting all kinds of pitchers, adjusting to them, reading pitches, etc. I wouldn't blame this slump on him being stupid.

This is just a small sample of things said about Stanton on this Marlins forum.  By Marlins "fans".  I didn't single anyone out and not everyone I quote is necessarily a whiny Stanton hater. These are from last nights post game:

It's easy to be a Marlins fan (and a Stanton fan) when the Marlins are winning and Stanton is bouncing balls off of the operable windows left and center field.  Anyone can do that.

 

But can you be a fan when you're crowd drawing bat in the lineup is down and out and has lost his way? Ask yourself that.  

 

It's June 8th and the Marlins are 2 games over .500, 1.5 games out of a Wild Card spot with a favorable schedule the next 10 days or so and some of you sound like 4 year olds having a tantrum because you didn't get the toy you wanted at the mall.

to be appropriate fair, he didn't get out of the slump on the road trip, though the long foul Wednesday was slightly encouraging. would have gotten a hit on the next pitch but hechavarria was in the way.

I believe this has been a strategy by Mattingly to not burden Stanton too much during his slump. Give him some extra time off to work in the cage and watch video while Ichiro is swinging a hot bat. I think Mattingly is being cautious not to let Stanton become so frustrated by going out there and reinforcing bad habits. I imagine it's kinda like he is saying... We're gonna start you and get you your ABs but give Ichiro a couple extra while you try to work on mechanics and pitch recognition and let you be patient.

I'm happy with his line from last night. As to the baseball IQ issue I feel catchers tend to have a good baseball IQ. It's why a lot of them become managers.
