July 29, 20169 yr Author Like most of us on here who are real fans, we are interested in a good team for the long term, not just one year. I was pretty upset with the deal, especially with Capps added. But, as I sit back and look at this, it all comes down to whether ownership is ready to open up the pocketbook. If we pay Jose, Ozuna, JT, Prado etc when their contracts are up, and keep this core together, this is a playoff caliber team for many years. If we start unloading them because we can't pay them, then we have nothing to replenish with in the minors and we are back to a multi year rebuilding. None of that has anything to do with trading Capps.

We overpaid obviously. But Let's win now! Cashner gives us a power arm and depth in the rotation. Let's make these deals count! July 29, 20169 yr Author This is indefensible. Even if the trade works out and Cashner is a stud, even if we lock up all our players, even if we sign Jose etc etc .... we gave up Capps for nothing. Even if you think Capps was gone and were ok with trading him, we didn't get enough for him. Trade Capps for a big haul. This wasn't that. I see no way this trade is good even if Cashner is world series mvp.
