2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Featured Replies

Mike Hill (black) clearly doesn't know how to pull out.

That's why they have so many babies

This is why I'm still unexcited about this team, despite the nice season they've had thus far. The people running it are stupid. Absolutely no assets left. I get the need to trade stuff to get stuff, but they didn't really get stuff.

So the holdup was Preller testing to see if Mike Hill was certifiably retarded. Fuck this guy. Fuck this fucking asshole. You would think a Harvard degree would come with a fucking brain.

lol at you guys who wanted Cashner

The issue isn't Cashner it is Hill. Preller just fleeced us now. Passan is gonna rewrite his tweet.

The issue IS Cashner....the Marlins moron FO thought highly enough of Cashner to dump what little assets we had left.

I hope we don't make the playoffs, that this team bombs this year and next, and Loria decides to sell. Then the new owner makes Mike Hill a fucking janitor.

So to recap:

Padres acquires: praddack, naylor, cosart, capps, Castillo

Marlins acquire: rea, cashner, Guerrero, Rodney.

Rarely do you see a trade that actually hurts the buying team lmao

Uh.  How about Doyle Alexander from the Braves for some Tigers prospect named John Smoltz.

Often do you see a trade that actually hurts the buying team

But Cashner is clearly a rental. Mike Hill knows this. Castillo is one thing , Naylor is another, but Capps too? What the hell

We're probably going to offer Cashner a fucking stupid contract in the offseason, so it's OK. He's not a rental. He'll be a piece of shit in Marlins uniform for years to come.

At least it's not like they acquired Ricky Nolasco. Peripherals amirite

I think standing pat and letting this team ride it out as is would have been 100 times better than these fucking moves.  And yes, that includes the Rodney deal.  I don't see how we got much better this year.  Maybe a tick better but not much better.  Rodney is old and has one year left. Cashner, whether he figures it out or not will be gone after the season ends.  When we miss the playoffs or get bounced after the 1st round, then what?  If you thought we had few assets now, try making a trade in the off season or next year.

If we would have kept Castillo he could have been up to AA before the season ends.  A hot start next season in AA and he is that close to the MLB roster.  At the very least his trade value would be much higher at that point.  Our only valuable trade chip going forward is Braxton Garrett.  I realize our farm system is bad.  But now you've taken the very few good assets left and traded them for very mediocre players at the MLB level.

Look at our core players of Yelich, Jose, Stanton, Ozuna, Conley, Realmuto, and Ramos.  They are all homegrown.  The one thing they have done right was build through the draft and an international FA signing.  I know that's not a very popular opinion around here but again look at the core.  It speaks for itself.  Even Koehler who is not great but an innings eater is home grown.  Wittgren, who might be a very good back end piece for our bullpen very soon is also home grown.  Urena an IFA who might be able to stick in our rotation, also home grown.  See the pattern yet?

These trades are nothing but moves out of desperation.  They are trying to go all in this year because by some miracle we are in the thick of the playoff hunt.  Usually, when you do things out of desperation, it doesn't turn out well.  What they should realize is that it's not a miracle.  They put together a good core.  Instead of staying the course we are now grasping at any upgrade to get us over the hump.

I also keep hearing that we have a 2-3 year window to win before Jose leaves as a FA.  Well fuck, pony up for Jose and extend that window and we wouldn't be so desperate now.  That would be a much better plan than to use the few assets we had in a sellers market and get mediocre players back that don't really make us much better.

Just my two cents!

I am not happy about dealing Capps either... but lets let cooler heads prevail here. I do believe the Jim Benedict probably saw a few things in these pitchers that influenced these deals. Probably that he could help Cashner return to form and maybe some issues with Capps that didn't bode well for the future. Lets all remember how trades can look good or bad initially and the future can change them dramatically.

The only thing on Hill's wizard of a mind was the next 3 months and no one traded was going to help the team over that period.  Didn't really care who he had to give up.
