I think we traded too much for what we got, but it's hard to know what our options were. I think we could have saved a piece or two if we made the deal all at once with Rodney. July 29, 201610 yr Jose/Conley/Cashner/Koehler/Rea Hopefully the Marlins defense makes Cashner & Rea better. Again they must think a lot of Colin Rea. Otherwise they just threw all of this against the wall in the hopes that Andrew Cashner catches fire over his last 10 starts. I don't think any of us were okay with doing nothing and the market is terrible right now but yeesh why the hell give up Capps? Padres don't make the deal without that? That is crazy.

All I am saying is we have been scouting for weeks now and I think there may be more to some of these evaluations than we can all see both in the guys we gave up and the guys we acquired. I am hoping at least.

July 29, 201610 yr Like most of us on here who are real fans, we are interested in a good team for the long term, not just one year. I was pretty upset with the deal, especially with Capps added. But, as I sit back and look at this, it all comes down to whether ownership is ready to open up the pocketbook. If we pay Jose, Ozuna, JT, Prado etc when their contracts are up, and keep this core together, this is a playoff caliber team for many years. If we start unloading them because we can't pay them, then we have nothing to replenish with in the minors and we are back to a multi year rebuilding.

July 29, 201610 yr Capps was always being traded this year. He can't help us but is a proven asset. That was always happening. I think Rea has potential to stick in the rotation for years.
