I was quoting Mattingly's own words. He thinks Telis is a better pinch hit option because he is a switch hitter. Doesn't necessarily mean he thinks Telis is much better with the bat.

It's still there and still the same but the sign inside the park close to the sculpture was replaced with a sign that says #JustGettinStarted 

 

 

Tellis can flat out hit,  .300+ in four AAA seasons, on average. But lacks defensively.  So probably that is why Wallach plays.

Todd Hollandsworth still sucks. You can hear when he's trying to make a point and then rambles on and on and gets farther away from his point and then it's two batters later and something else is going on and he never even got to his original point. 

 

Severino is "good" but emotionless though it feels like that will take time to come out as he gets more connected to the team. As several have pointed out right now he sounds like one of those national broadcast commentators who know nothing about the team and is only going off his game notes thus far. 

 

 

For sure. I don't recall if Rich had the same problem or not, been so long.

 

He definitely didn't have that problem the last several years and I think that "hurts" our impressions of Severino early on. It felt like Rich really knew the team on a personal level.

Rich and Tommy connected pretty quick. We had the pleasure of having Len Casper for 2 years prior to that, but Rich came in and did a great job. Always helps that when you had a color analyst in Tommy that had been there 8 years prior and knew what he was saying.

 

Barry Jackson tweeted that Severino and Hollandsworth kinda sound a like when you first hear them speak and I agree. Severino is pretty good but Hollandsworth just brings him down. Definitely does sound like a MLB Network televised game. Hollandsworth is just as bad as Preston because he continues to say "Well, when I was playing..." . He also keep  rambling on about his time working with the Cubs.

 

 

Letting Waltz go will never make any sense on any level.  Even trying to give the decision makers the benefit of the doubt, if you’ve got a guy with 13 years as PBP even if he’s just average you keep him (let alone someone like Waltz who was very popular).  Anyone in baseball knows the connection fans make with the voice of the team.   You can’t create that connection overnight either.  Waltz did an interview on MLB network back in early March and you could tell he was still hurt by the whole thing.  I hope something in baseball comes up for him because you can tell he really loves the game.

 

As for Severino and Hollandsworth, it is still early.  Fingers still crossed.  The voice similarity is killing me though.

Severino is more "energetic" (in a rah-rah way) than Waltz, which I guess is what they are looking for.  For example, during the interview with Hill the other day he made some embarrassing comment about the Marlins future being a "championship one", or something to that effect.  He's all in on the "Just getting started" story line.

Waltz would have done the same thing. Part of the play-by-play announcer's job is to tow the company line. 

 

 

I don't see a problem with either Hollandsworth or Severino. You guys are nickpicking. Give it a few months and see how they work together.

They definitely sound too much alike. It has been boring to listen to thus far, in my opinion. Earlier this week, when I was forced to watch the NESN broadcast of our games, I was so pleasantly surprised to learn that Dave O'Brien is the Sux announcer. What a TREAT to hear that familiar voice again. I'm not sure I will ever get used to Severino and Hollandsworth because I often can't even tell which one is talking. 

 

 

I never thought I’d say this but listening to Same Guy 1 and Same Guy 2 makes me miss Rich Waltz soooooooo bad.

 

 

I've had strong opinions on announcers, but I think they're both "fine." Although Rich and Tommy were infinitely better. It's still mind boggling to me that the Marlins/FS Florida had a pretty charismatic, entertaining duo who worked well together and just threw them away like garbage. The Marlins desperately need to generate energy and passion among the casual fans right now and Rich and Tommy did a superb job at that. You could tell how invested they were in the team, but Severino and Hollandsworth seem like they couldn't give two shits.

 

It could be much worse though, such as having Preston and Eduardo working full time.

 

Hollandsworth has become a bit of a homer this year imo. 

 

 

So what time does the parking garage open up before the game? Going to a weekday game this year and want to get there early to beat the traffic in. 

 

 

This season so far was much worse than expected (yea,not expected so bad even in a rebuilding season),of course Jeter had a plan but fans had their plans,too,maybe fans would come back when this team begins to win again,but who knows,I just hope Jeter was prepared himself well for these upcoming 100+ loses seasons because he was used to those winning seasons he had in the New York…

 

 

I think many of us have forgotten how hard it is to watch a really bad team, versus the team we had that gave us a reason to watch and go to the park for.  Jeter can say he expects to win, not just later, but now-but C'mon, in his interview with Gumbel on HBO, Gumbel calls him delusional.  Rebuilds are tough and hard to watch.  

 

 

Getting the guys back from the DL will certainly help but a lot of this is just late game execution and it’s a fine line between winning and losing.

Yea as bad as we've been we could have won 6 or 7 more games by now and, oddly enough, we should be a better, more complete team with the additions of Prado Straily and Chen within the next few weeks. Hopefully this first three plus weeks was rock bottom. 

 

 

On Jeter getting defensive when asked if the team was tanking... did you all expect him to say yes we're made to lose and we don't expect a win on a daily basis? That's insulting to everyone involved. Jeter knows this team sucks but they are "capable" of winning more games than they've shown and there's no way Mattingly and the coaches are doing any less than preparing these guys to win on a daily basis regardless of what the results have shown thus far. It's stupid to think otherwise.
