November 21, 20187 yr Oh now forget that guy. If he's gonna complain about being traded to a rebuilding team why would we want him? But I don't think the Mariners would be a rebuilding team next season, maybe just retool.
November 21, 20187 yr But I don't think the Mariners would be a rebuilding team next season, maybe just retool. The Mariners GM is dying to do a Marlins style rebuild he just has a bunch of untradeable contracts that are preventing him from doing so. But if he could he'd have the biggest fire sale Seattle has ever seen.
November 21, 20187 yr has a bunch of untradeable contracts Untradeable than the ones of Stanton, Chen and Prado ?
November 21, 20187 yr Untradeable than the ones of Stanton, Chen and Prado ? Cano's is still pretty bad. 24M per year for the next 5 years, coming of a PED suspension. Stanton was/is at least producing. They owe Felix Hernandez 27M+857K signing bonus for 2019, though this is the last year of that contract. So yeah, they have several bad contracts Here's 2019: 2020: 2021: It starts getting better in 2022, with only Cano (24M) and Segura (14.25M) on guaranteed contracts.
November 21, 20187 yr http://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/25340011/buster-mlb-buzz-miami-marlins-deal-jt-realmuto-too-late I do like that they were asking the moon for him from a division rival and not settling for crap. It's also stupid to write the article in the tone of you HAVE to trade him ASAP for pennies on the dollar or you'll get nothing for him.
Read that article earlier. IT was really weird cause it seemed like he was arguing that we dont intend to trade him when its pretty obvious he will be gone within the next month. Also, the whole asking for more because you are a division rival thing is incredibly stupid and antiquated thinking. Get the best deal for your asset and worry about your own team, especially when we are not going to compete this year and likely next year anyways.
November 22, 20187 yr https://www.mlb.com/marlins/news/no-realmuto-trade-expected-over-thanksgiving/c-301013982 "Miami is also entering the second year of what it hopes is a three-to-five-year plan to be in postseason contention. There is a hope that the Marlins will be competing for at least a Wild Card spot in 2020, which would be Realmuto's final year of arbitration. He is eligible for free agency in '21." Just sounds good.
November 22, 20187 yr I know it's easy for people to say this team won't be in contention for ten years but if they keep making the progress they've made from last year to now year after year then I wouldn't be surprised if they are seriously contending two years from now.

To be honest, if this year we get to see the team with Monte, VV Mesa, Yamamoto, Neidert, Isan, Guzman, B. Miller, Gallen for a huge part of the season I think they could finish at .500 or a bit better.
November 22, 20187 yr I respect the process, 2020 it begins. eh too soon. We have neither a sure thing pitching nor hitting prospect. I don't even think there's a ceiling #1 SP in system and ceiling #2 is caleb smith. Maybe with some great moves and luck they're over .500 by 2021
November 22, 20187 yr I expect 2019 to be a fun season for the fish. It could remind us a little of 2006. That team was really fun to watch with Hanley, Uggla, Jacobs, etc wow Good times....
November 22, 20187 yr to original topic. JT is a 4-5 WAR catcher and easily the best catch in baseball with 2 years left - marlins should only accept offers in that valuation
November 22, 20187 yr I expect 2019 to be a fun season for the fish. It could remind us a little of 2006. That team was really fun to watch with Hanley, Uggla, Jacobs, etc wow Good times.... hanley and jacobs were very highly touted tho...we have nothing similar.. (i loved that season)
November 22, 20187 yr hanley and jacobs were very highly touted tho...we have nothing similar.. (i loved that season) Yes, me too. I get what you are saying for real but dont underestimate Monte, Victor Victor and Isan plus Neidert and yamamoto are really good.
November 22, 20187 yr Yes, me too. I get what you are saying for real but dont underestimate Monte, Victor Victor and Isan plus Neidert and yamamoto are really good. im not, but they're still 50 FV prospects
November 22, 20187 yr Maybe it could be the fan in my heart speaking hehe but Im really looking forward to next season. Can't wait for it.....
November 22, 20187 yr im not, but they're still 50 FV prospects Yes I get what you are saying but you know that projections are not 100% accurate just like scouts fail. They may be really good or not, but I think the future is really promising.
November 22, 20187 yr Maybe it could be the fan in my heart speaking hehe but Im really looking forward to next season. Can't wait for it..... I too am optimistic about the team's future under this ownership but next year is gonna be too soon IMO, especially once we trade JT. I could see wild card in 2020 and that should be the goal. Use this year to keep churning through players and seeing what you have in guys. this year should be straight evaluation and player development
November 22, 20187 yr I'm really hoping for an astros/dodgers realmuto trade. Best scenario we get an Ace in Forrest Whitley and a power hitter in Yordan Alvarez if not then May and Lux from L.A.
November 22, 20187 yr im not, but they're still 50 FV prospects yes but the diff was hanley was like 70FV at time and jacobs very high regarded so it was somewhat expected
