TaiwanMarlins
So this team didn't willing to offer 5/100 ?
Admin
So this team didn't willing to offer 5/100 ? They'd be stupid to do that. He will earn less than $20 million combined over the next two seasons in arby. This would mean that would be a contract worth at least $80 million over three years, perhaps more. TaiwanMarlins
5/100 is probably too much considering he has 2 years left of arby where he'll earn nowhere close to $40M The total amount of those two arby should be around 20~22 million. Admin
The total amount of those two arby should be around 20~22 million. Likely less than that considering he earned under $3 million in 2018 and even at that number, it is still dumb to give 5/100.
Admin
I don't mind $20M AAV in the FA years but giving him that in his 2 arby years is stupid.

Admin
Marlins won't go 5/100 with JT. I sure hope they won't. Why would you hope for that?
Admin
This is a team that can't spend recklessly, every contract has to be smart. You don't give a guy FA money in 2 arby years. It is just bad business.
CYmarlins
Yeah and I'm guessing that is closer to what they offered. If that was close to what they offered or would offer then that is more than fair.
TaiwanMarlins
At some point, though, they'll have to change the culture, and show that they're willing to pay and keep people instead of always just recycling guys into other prospects. This new regime was only take over this franchise for one year and I don't think the trades for those priced players in the beginning of this rebuilding were "culture of recycling guys into other prospects", I believe in the right time they would start to spend what they need to improve this team. THRILLHO
Good run through on the market for JT. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/so-you-want-to-trade-for-j-t-realmuto/
SilverBullet
"It's not my decision whether I get traded or not. It's up to the Marlins. Whatever they want to do with me, that's up to them. So for me, there is really no discussion to be had. My job is to show up and play baseball." Quote from JT in Japan. To me this sounds like there's only two options, get traded or stay with the team, and either way he'll accept it and be fine... but definitely doesn't sound like he's thinking about an extension. It also doesn't sound like he's pushing for a trade and it also doesn't sound like he'd be a problem if he isn't traded.

DTrain
I love how so many teams have prospects that are “off the table” for Realmuto. I agree with Fangraphs 100%; only Vlad Jr should be off the table for JT. JT can put a good franchise over the hump.

But if he isn't going to be receptive to an extension unless it is overpaid then the right solution is to move him. I am sure his agent is gonna be looking for something around 5 years / $100 million. I am honestly more excited about what we could get in return. Winter Meetings can't come soon enough! Admin
"years" He's under control for 2 more years so they literally do not have "years" before they can trade him as in "years" he'll be a free agent. They have a year, but his value can only go down from here.
