Marlins Park Renovation Updates

Featured Replies

I never noticed this quote until today but Chip Bowers specifically made a point of how the home run sculpture was created by a personal friend of Loria's. They reallllllyyyyy wanna distance themselves from Loria. They probably even changed the handle on the door to Loria's office.

“I understand the sensitivities of artists,” Bowers said. “That said, the artist was a friend of the prior owner’s. Who [submitted the “Homer” proposal] because the prior owner asked him to. He had bought a lot of art from him previously, and continues to do so today.

“The art itself is meant to reflect Miami, but in Mr. Grooms’ own words, is actually based on Daytona, Florida,” Bowers said. “So when we think about Miami, this would not be authentically Miami. Albeit beautiful ....”

OR!  Holy crap....

What if THESE ARE the wall graphics.........all the way across or maybe just one every so often.  Highlighting the different cities.  It promotes and gives that neon look to it.  The way they used to do in Atlanta and other places with player faces.

Actually no they don't. Broward is welcome to come to Marlins Park but the new ownership feels the previous ownership catered too much to the fans further north and neglected "Miami" itself so their entire goal now is to embrace Miami 200%.

But when most of the fans come from the north..... it'd be best to embrace the surrounding areas, it may seem minuscule, but you have to appease all areas, not just one specific. Especially when you have 2 other counties less than an hour or two away.

They're not neglecting the fans up north, they're just targeting Miami primarily.

And I think that thing about most fans come from the north is a misinterpreted problem that has never been corrected. Most of the fans come from the north because that's where Joe Robbie Stadium was... and that's great but now that we're in Little Havana why are we ignoring the communities closer to the ballpark?

In no way do I think Broward and other areas should be pushed aside but I don't think the Loria ownership did enough to grow the Miami specific fanbase. Loria should have tried to reverse the trend of more fans coming from Broward. Doing that plus keeping the Broward fans as well would have grown the fanbase by leaps and bounds.

Or, in better words, Loria relied too much on those Broward fans years and years after leaving that area. It's like moving to a new neighborhood and only hanging out with your old neighbors while never once meeting or attempting to create friendships with your new neighbors.

Or... a highly exaggerated and ridiculous example here but imagine if the Dodgers kept relying on their Brooklyn fans once they moved to Los Angeles in 1958. That would make zero sense because they left Brooklyn and have a new community to embrace in Los Angeles.

I’d love to see some of this artwork for Davie and Dania Beach

The way these teases are going you'll get it because we're apparently getting one picture for every city in Florida from now until spring training when the logos and uniforms will finally be unveiled.

Why do you think they're making the catchphrases bilingual, not just spanish?

As long as you're not in Broward ?

Broward fans are still welcome but they'll be asked to sit in a special section just outside the ballpark adjacent to the home run sculpture.

Hahaha.  It'll be like the rooftops at Wrigley - we have to look through the windows from outside.

With all the "_______ (town)______" sections, I'm surprised there isn't a Broward area. lol.

I'm very curious what goes in the spot where they removed seats.

Me too - didn't expect them to take out the floor like that to put SRO areas there.

This is at the bottom of section 17, which is right above the seats behind home plate:

I think it's a just a new passageway between "The Club" and the field/seats......in his tweet, he replied to someone's question (what's the plan for this area) with the response of "the premium standard just got reset", with pictures of the "The Club" renderings.

I'll run by there this week and see if I can see anything else they aren't showing here and give an update.

We can only speculate now.  But this is the second lower bowl area we’ve seen having seats removed.  If these changes become pervasive to the point where the upper deck is open on the regular and becomes the place where inexpensive seats are had then I’m not sure I’ll like these “upgrades”

Blue walls!  Interesting that it's more of a royal blue than what we've seen on the unis.

It's funny, I went by there on Friday evening after work, but with the stupid time change, it was too dark to see inside the park.  I'll have to see if I can get off a bit early one of these days to see if I can get some shots inside the park.

The issue with the green walls was they were too bright. Making them the "new" bright blue would mean they're still too bright so making them a more subtle blue will improve the look of the field while still not being as gaudy as the previous walls. I wouldn't call that royal blue, it looks like a light blue to me just less intense. I imagine they're thinking for it to look like ocean water, the marlins swimming in the ocean etc etc.
