I have confidence this isn't the biggest acquisition of this off-season.

Lest we forget, the Nick Anderson acquisition was little-heralded too. You never really know who the biggest acquisition will be until you have hindsight.

And looking at them numbers, it's not hard to squint and see some Nick Anderson in this Guillén fella.

It's just what I think, catcher is not pitcher, infielder or outfielder, a catcher would affect the performance of all the pitchers, the Marlins not a super good team and can't afford to lose games due to the bad performance behind the plate, this off-season is a great opportunity to upgrade it.

Why do sound like Trump specially at the end

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/nl-east-notes-kingston-phillies-marlins-kintzler-degrom.html

"As of Wednesday, the Marlins hadn’t made Brandon Kintzler a new contract offer, The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reports.  The Marlins declined their 2021 club option on Kintzler (worth $4MM) last month and had expressed interest in bringing him back, though no progress has yet been made on that front.  Kintzler posted a 2.22 ERA over 24 1/3 innings in his first season in Miami, with the caveat that advanced metrics and ERA predictors were much less impressed with the groundball specialist’s work."

Trust in Derek but still disappointed.

Perhaps they thought it'd be better to move on from him.

It's not a bad thing.

Nah.

I'm a big fan. Wouldn't be an outrageous hall since he is a FA next year and coming off a bad "season". Would allow us to grow young OFs for another year in the minors. Gives us a badly needed power hitter in the middle of the lineup. He'd be motivated to produce during a contract year. If we aren't in playoff hunt, could net us a good haul at the deadline to recoup whatever we gave up for him. Is a no-brainer move IMO

Trade for Bryant

Sign McCann to a two year deal

Sign Paxton to a one year deal

Sign a closer

The Bryant trade makes sense but the asking price is still going to be one of Bleday, Max or Lopez plus another couple of mid range prospects.

The problem is if he has a great FA year, we will be stuck into a situation like Phillies.  Not only did they lose Sixto, but they may lose out on Realmuto.

I agree we need let these youngsters develop. But trading for a one year rental with the risk of him walking isn't worth it.

Wouldnt it be better just sign Ozuna and downgrade to Molina?

If Pablo Lopez is the starting point for a Bryant trade, then actually, yes, go for it. I love Pablo but he's had part of a good year in a shortened season.

Yeah though the Cubs know that too, so I doubt he'd be a starting point in reality.

Pablo López, the 25-year-old starter with a career 96 xFIP- for a third baseman at risk of being non-tendered? AND it will soak up the majority if not all the free agent budget heading into 2021? That's a hard pass for me, y'all.

And regarding Kintzler, the fellers on the FanGraphs podcast had an interesting bit of speculation: They said it's possible a number of these recent club option buyouts might be teams trying to get their rosters straight for the Rule 5 before adding guys like Kintzler.

They suggested the Marlins may have told Kintzler: Thanks for your service, and if you want to come back for $4M, just wait until January and we'll float that offer your way.

I'm skeptical, but I think it's an interesting thought.
