May 9, 20213 yr Bass is a fucking joke. Alcantara has 1 win in 9 starts and that is going to start having a major impact. Not crispy.

May 9, 20213 yr This team needs work and some people need to be replaced... Putting Bass out there in the 10th,.. Giving a struggling hitter like Cooper more At-Bats in the 2 hole Done with Don

Bunt Brinson over, have hi steal, whatever. Just do something. Bottom of the lineup, you have to score at least 1. Why not go for the easy run and then get it done in the 11th?
May 9, 20213 yr Absolutely unacceptable managing today. If I ran the team, I would have fired Don Mattingly while Anthony Bass was on his way from the bullpen to the mound.
May 9, 20213 yr If this team manages to sneak into the playoffs then we have a chance. I doubt that we would see many soft tossing lefties. Advantage Marlins.
May 9, 20213 yr Bullpen game tomorrow according to Donnie. Probably why he went with Bass in the 10th even though literally everyone else knew it was a bad idea. Gotta manage for tomorrow instead of win today. 😑

He shoulda played at least for a tie in the bottom of the 10th and then hope to get the win... I am still trying to remember why the Dodgers let Mattingly go. They played much better after Roberts replaced him. Dodger fans all complained of the same things: in-game management and bullpen handling.... If we are seriously trying to compete and no longer in rebuild mode than Don needs to go.

Oh yeah, I live in LA so every time I talk about the Marlins the Dodgers fans here give me their condolences for having to root for a Mattingly-managed team. One of my coworkers calls him "Donnie Two Trips" based on the time he had to take out a pitcher because he tried to visit the mound twice and didn't know the rule that he couldn't.

That requires a little more context. If people didn't see it, they'll read this and think he went all the way back to the dugout and then went back out to the mound not knowing he had to remove the pitcher. It was an honest mistake - he was walking away, barely off the mound, pitcher (Broxton IIRC) asked something, so Don turned around and walked back to answer him. Pretty sure it was a game where Torre was letting Don manage the final few games of the year and that's when it happened. The UMPIRES didn't even think anything of it at the time, the other manager came out and mentioned it.

When Don pulled Castano out after 4 innings yesterday, he also pushed the bullpen back two days and forced Sandy to pitch without an extra day off which is the whole point of bullpen starts. Don could have had Castano go 5-6, bite the bullet but he over managed using Curtiss, Bender & Det already down by 2 runs. If you’re going to send a 5th day starter out then it’s all in, win or loss gm. Edited May 9, 20213 yr by FishFry

I get the whole, "don't push the innings" thing, but you're acting like Sandy ABSOLUTELY needed an extra day off, five weeks into the season. I don't see why Pablo needed it, TBH, but it happened. Maybe later in the year, sure, not early May. Get off your high horse, please.

Don pushed the bullpen back and forwarded Sandy’s start. Don’t be mad because I’m right. Right now, every time I post too someone else than you, you are responding.
May 9, 20213 yr Well, the last two games were rough. The Marlins did go 4-2 on the home stand this week, so overall not too bad, I guess.

Today was Sandy's normally scheduled day to go. Wasn't forwarded whatsoever.
May 9, 20213 yr Also, whether Sandy pitched or not and regardless how the pen was used yesterday- another game that should NEVER have even gone to extras but thanks to the shit offense we have...here we are. Been saying it since before the season began. The offense will have a ton of 2-3 run games followed by the occasional 8+ run games and then back to shit again. It's how they're constructed. Yes, I understand every team will have an occasional 1 or 2 run game but man, you could even argue that if this team could just score 2 runs a game at minumum we'd probably have a .500 record at least (not going to go look) for sure an offense that puts up 4 runs a night and this team would be leading the NL Least and probably by a wide margin. They just don't have enough guys that can get on base at regular clip.
