June 2, 20215 yr I'll give Sandy a pass here... Starting pitching can't always be perfect.... When you see the line-up Don trots out there (not getting into depth and injuries here) VS the Blue Jays line-up, it's no contest FO really needs to improve the on-field product by start of next season Don needs to stop treating this team like it's in rebuild mode and hold players accountable like Trader Jack would. If a player's performance is slipping and needs a kick in the ass, Don needs to tell it like it is. Yeah, we have guys who should be in lower levels of the farm but Don's coddling of them isn't helping. Maybe these kids will respond to having a match lit underneath them. I just don't get a sense of urgency or "We are in win now mode" from Don (or the FO for that matter) OK. I'm done venting. I needed it. Very frustrating when you see this team struggling after a playoff season. I'm more annoyed with Don and the FO than I am with the players.

There's absolutely no sense of urgency to put wins together when every lineup looks like a Sunday special with at least one of the starting players getting a day off. Isan Diaz is legitimately one of the 10 worst players in Major League Baseball today and he is in the starting lineup every single day, even against a lefty, which simple minded Mattingly usually platoons guys who are way better at baseball than Diaz. Just a quick reminder that the Marlins made the playoffs last season EVEN THOUGH Mattingly was managing, not BECAUSE he was managing every game. I can't wait to watch guys like Jazz (definitely) and Aggy (maybe?) play for a manager who likes winning more than being right.

If they still can't put a quality offense to go with the starting pitching by next April, then fuck this ownership group. I bought into their rebuild plan and I was patient with the kids, but now that we are at the finish line, they seem to have no goddamn clue and I don't think we have enough bats on the farm (too many OFers and SS prospects when they didn't load up on pitching, need more well-rounded farm), so they will need to spend $$$.
June 2, 20215 yr Nothing more can be said that hasn't been said really. It's crushing to see them pissing away a season. The silent treatment from the FO actually speaks volumes on who they really are and how much they care about investing into the team. Fuck them for being fucking cheap assholes like every other owner this team has had and just shitting on a team that only needed a little bit more to really become a legit playoff team. They didn't even have to trade away their top guys to do so.

Mattingly does need to go. I just don't see us with another winning season with him at the helm.

He basically said that the issue with this FO (and Don, imo) is that they give guys too many chances and wait too long to decide that a guy is bad. Teams like the Rays move on quickly and trade or demote dudes like Corey Dickerson and Isan Diaz. No way you'd see Isan starting every day on the Rays or (this version of) Dickerson batting in the middle of the order. "But there's no one else because our infield depth and injury issues..." there are literally players at every minor league level who are playing 2B/3B and who deserve a chance over Isan Diaz right now. The guy is one of the worst players in baseball when he's batting and he also plays awful defense and sucks as a base runner. There is a chance the other infielders in the Marlins system will be just as bad, but there is almost no chance they will be worse. Why do we need to watch Isan struggle for another 100 plate appearances before anything happens? It's like when Anderson got hurt, the FO thought, "well, it'll be Isan until Anderson gets back" and it's almost a free pass no matter what Isan does. Dude doesn't even show much effort on the field, makes physical and mental mistakes and literally costs the team scoring chances almost every day. So what happens the next day? Right back in the starting lineup.

I mean even Don played through injuries and put it all on the field. It’s like the players are under a union of insurance agencies that care more about the client over the their product. I would like some transparency from the FO, we deserve it. I’m done listening to Don, his dialogue and demeanor is always the same gurgitation.

It's one of the (very) few managerial things he can do well. He used to be a great motivator and get players to play above their skill level. I have noticed way more of his players looking upset in the dugout, presumably because of Don's decisions. The game where Jazz was double switched out in the fourth inning? He was fuming in the dugout. One of the days off Jesus Aguilar got when he was on his hot streak? Dude was on the top step of the dugout just looking thoroughly defeated (which is even more noticeable with a guy who is always laughing and joking around.) If Mattingly has lost the clubhouse AND he makes horrific in game decisions, what is he still doing here? Oh, right, this FO gives everyone 100 chances, so it's only fair for Mattingly ("The Isan Diaz of Managers") to get his 100 chances too. Hopefully he's on 99 now.

That’s about the same time I called Don out of him losing the team with that double switch. I also compiled a list of Don’s treatment toward Jazz in that time but that was dismissed as reading to much into nothing. I will also add the Harrison ordeal into the mix of a possible occurrence that could have caused friction within. I know it was just spring training, but the team seemed to perform more to their potential, yet now, it’s anything but that. Last year too, they got more from less but this team on paper is better.
