The Fire Don Mattingly Thread

Don might not be chiefly responsible for last night's loss, but he sure as hell contributed....

- Get Soler out of the 3 spot

- Either bench Garcia (which I doubt because of his contract) or move him way down out of the 5 spot until he shows he can bat higher

- I don't know if DLC and Wendle were unavailable but no way in hell do you let Stallings and Berti bat in the 9th down by a run with the tying run on base

I really felt that Don did not put this team in the best position to win.

More and more, I find myself not upset with the team itself, but with Dumbass Don....

Yeah, that was another game that we *probably* would have won with a decent manager calling the shots. You can never predict exactly how things would go, but getting Bleier in to "get some work" cost us the game. Letting Stallings and Berti bat in the 9th might have cost us the game. Not pinch hitting for Avisail Garcia in key moments (or just not starting him in the first place) might have cost us the game. The Marlins are 12-10 right now. With a good manager, they'd have 3 or 4 more wins ALREADY. That's a pace I don't even want to think about when stretched through the whole season. (Which, we know Mattingly will be here for.)

Yeah, I hate losing but a loss would be easier to take if the team just fell short AND Don made every single correct move to give this team a chance to win .  His inability to do that is beyond frustrating.

Exactly.

If Wendle was available last night, it's straight up incompetence to have not used him.

Same with DLC, honestly. Hit DLC for Stallings or Berti, either would have been fine. We got Henry to catch and we could have figured out someone (Soler? Garcia?) to cover first base for the rest of the game if we went into extras. Just awful. Absolutely awful.

Let's keep sitting him against lefties.

After his hustle and effort to get that 4th run, I never want to see Don sit him (other than he needs a day off) against lefties ever again.  Jazz proved exactly why ne needs to be in that line-up

Exactly.

Also very small samples but he hasn't struck out vs a lefty yet.

And Don seems to have forgotten when Jazz smashed one off of Phillies lefty Alvarado

Jazz will likely sit today because there is a lefty on the mound. The lefty is pitching for the Marlins, but Don Mattingly is a fucking idiot, so who knows?

We're facing a pitcher with the surname Castellanos, if any of our guys homer off of him to make it a 4-0 ballgame, do we need to be worried?

Jazz Chisholm could go 6-for-6 with six home runs tonight and he would still be on the bench tomorrow because Madison Bumgarner is pitching.

Early day game after night game would be the other excuse, but also considering he just sat out of 1.95 games over the weekend ...

He's not a catcher. He doesn't need a day off because he played the day before. MattingLOL.

Truly incredible how god awful of a manager he is

It's honestly baffling that they extended him (picked up his option, whatever) after he showed so much incompetence last season. But then again, maybe the incompetence is coming from inside the house...

What terrifies me is if the team is still doing well in spite of Don's managerial decisions, they may think "yeah Don is good" and extend him FURTHER.

And he is also 24 years old.

Should have plenty of legs under him for that.

If not then there are FAR FAR more serious issues within this organization.
