The Fire Don Mattingly Thread

Featured Replies

I just can't understand what he's doing or how the front office continues to let it happen by retaining him.

It'd be one thing if he got results from it last season and/or was getting results from it this season.....but it hasn't worked and is not working now.  LET HIM GO.

Yep.  I went on Twitter after the 5th inning.  Saw Mish's idiotic comment

What plan?  Don is an idiot!

But Mish is right there. It's stupid but it's their stupid plan. It's awful but it IS the reason. They don't want him facing lefties. Morons.

So Don pulled Jazz because he was facing a lefty...?

Would love for someone to show this to Don and see what he says. Does Donnie even remember this?

Also I think @SongInTheAir got a bit more ammunition on his anti Don Mattingly side after this past game, tbh.

I don't even need any more, Don Mattingly is a cockroach and I am the entire fucking Raid factory.

His ops vs lefties is like 50 points lower than vs righties. The splits aren’t even that bad and also at a minimum of ABs. Why do none of the other losers on the team get platooned and relegated to the bottom of the order. Really galaxy brain shit from Don

Ask Donnie, I'm not defending him.

don't you know that only lefties have platoon splits? that's why there's no "righty specialist" in the bullpen. Don is just way too smart for you, peasant boy.

Wish I could read the article today.  Anyone have access and up for giving the gist of what it says?

I'd get it if Jazz had been around for 10 years and had a major split, but he's still young, why don't we actually find out if he can figure out how to hit lefties?

Far as I can tell, it hasn't been posted yet.

EDIT - found it. Hold, please.

Snips from Herald article:

 - Don believes team has "more polished hitters" who "deserve more at bats" (and thus the higher spots in the lineup)

 - The team actually believes the guys on the bench could be starting for many teams

 - Barry (or Craig) believes that a .278 OBP is vastly/drastically different from .307 (Jazz' vs LHP and RHP respectively)

 - Don: "You never know where the big at bats are coming from. That might be the best spot for him." (Lol)

A few other items that were already covered in this thread from quotes last night.

OH OK THEN.  I GET IT AND AM TOTES ONBOARD WITH "THE PROCESS"

I’d have no problem with Jazz sitting against lefties if the plan was actually good.

In order for that plan to be good, the other side of the platoon can’t be Jon Berti…

not really sure i understand the moves Mattingly made tonight tbh.

Sitting Soler was smart.

Then it got dumb after that.

Sitting Soler wasn’t even smart either.

So embarrassing. Jazz should literally play 162 games at the top of the lineup. I'm so over Don. Its like watching the baseball version of Matt Nagy
