Hot Stove (2021-2022 offseason)

Joe "retired" for like a week and then his new job was still reporting about the Marlins, completing undermining De Nicola being promoted to his spot. Awful move Joe, classless.

If he was just moving on from MLB.com that's fine but announcing a retirement implies he was not gonna keep doing the same work after this one.

That's like McDonald's closing a restaurant and a new restaurant takes it's spot hoping for big business but then McDonald's opens a new McDonald's right next door.

Joe being classified as a 'reporter' is funny.

Its like people are too stupid to realize that the crap Joe fed them was crap so lets keep having the same crap.

De Nicola does a fine job, especially when compared to Scoop.

I'm sure her clicks per story are higher than Scoop's also.

so you are saying it will be safe to put my hands on the stove?

The stove is gonna be ice cold thanks to the lockout

Damn, Marlins ready to have a very hot stove this time but MLB and MLBPA just take that stove away.

“OCTOBER 26: Commissioner Rob Manfred continued to express optimism about the possibility of hammering out a new agreement by December 1. Speaking with reporters (including Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post) before tonight’s opening World Series contest, Manfred called agreeing to a pre-December CBA the “number one priority” for the league.”

Yeah, cancels the winter meeting first when you still have about 40 day to get the job done.

Not entirely her fault, the way MLB.com does articles has changed, but I don't like De Nicola's work under the parameters in place. Very disappointed considering I was glad she got the position.

He’s talking about Marte and Duvall like we didn’t already have BOTH of them and still had a terrible team.

Marte was injured for half of his time here and there were massive holes at C, LF, and 3B (with Andy hurt) for most of the 1st half. Get a good C and CF (like Marte) along with filling the hole at LF with Jesus Sanchez and the team will already be better. Get one of the star SS to shore up 3B (Miggy can play there if BA gets hurt again) and RF (BA there and Miggy at 3B if Coop gets hurt). In addition much of the rotation was banged up. We have much more depth next year. Max Meyer can step in. We now have Thompson. Cabrera is now MLB ready etc. I say round it out with a really good utility guy like Josh Harrison and you are pretty set to deal with injuries.

The first half team was a team that hovered around the .500 mark until the lack of depth caught up to them. You know which other team hovered around .500 in the 1st half? The Braves. They are still playing right now in the World Series. Why? Because they shored up their depth with guys like Duvall, Soler, Peterson, and Rosario

My comment was regarding the fact that he made a list of FA targets and didn’t include any of the “top” names so in his mind, solely going after Marte, Duval, or even both on the free agent market would be a step forward. I’m just saying it’s basically a lateral step back to the beginning of last season.

And I’m sorry, but starting pitching was not the reason they ultimately became sellers. The offense just did not work. Other than Marte (who I do agree would be a great fit to being back) there was too much feast or famine and streakiness in the lineup. That includes Sanchez, Chisholm, and BA who, to answer your question from the other thread, is a very flawed hitter who opens himself up to exploitation because he’s constantly trying to hit something the right field and seems to have a lot of trouble pulling the inside fastball (if you’ve watched enough games you will have noticed that he’s late on anything hard and middle-in). We make all these excuses as to why the marlins can’t or shouldn’t go after a top tier free agent but honestly fuck it, there’s no excuse anymore. They need their Jayson Werth moment and finally pony up and get some real talent here and stop pretending these “core” pieces are the answer. Obviously it hasn’t worked.

I know we have Miggy now and have Salas in the future but we need to acquire one of the five star SS FAs if we're serious to win. It's difficult to outbid rich teams if have only one or two options in the market but it's five now so I believe we have legit chances to land one of the five (especially the relatively low priced three Semien, Story and Baez), and because of the crowded of the group it won't surprise me if one or two of them choose to sign a one year contract and seeking for the bigger contract in the next off-season, it would only increases our chances to sign one of them.
