Hot Stove (2021-2022 offseason)

Featured Replies

In my eyes, the offseason the marlins should be shooting for would be sign Correra at SS, Sign Castellanos/Marte (preferrably Marte), a Replacement for BA at 3B, and a legitimate controllable catcher via trade. The bullpen could use some upgrades but honestly, as long as the offense is improved enough to where they can score 4/5 runs instead of 2 then the 1-2 runs given up in the 8th by the bullpen won't blow the game for them like it did all season in 2021. It's time they treat the Marlins like a real business which is that you invest in the product to ensure that it's something people want to buy, then you start building your customer base. In other words, I don't care what it costs, bring in some god damn talent. Sherman's a billionaire for christs sake. If he loses $30M this year on the team he can get a good tax write off for his real ventures. Fuck the excuses already.

As for the improvements they can make with existing players, Jazz has the talent but they need to weed out the Hanley/Acuña in him and put him in a role where his job is to get on base, not to rely on him for the teams power. Cause early in the season you saw him waiting and slapping fastballs to left field and pulling off-speed pitches over the second basemen and he was doing great. Then 2020 Jazz started showing up with his Alfonso Soriano hacks and it went to shit.

I anticipate they'll bring back Aggy as the DH (assuming it's in the CBA) and put Lewin at first. I'm not sold on Lewin's bat but His defense is GG caliber from what I've seen and I think ultimately the bat will be serviceable. If they sign one of Castellanos/Marte like I mentioned then I have enough faith in De la Cruz's on base abilities and Sanchez's slugging % that the offense should figure itself out.

Good post overall, just a couple items.

I think here we can let him keep his personality (it's gotten a lot of attention from MLB so that'll bring eyes to the team) but the rest, I agree. He can have his "Soriano hacks" as you call them on 2-0 and 3-1 pitches (and maybe on some first pitches) but for the most part, have that on-base approach, like you're saying.

Also with Lewin's bat - I think he can be a good .260 average guy with up to 25 homers and a good number of walks - throw him in the 6 or 7 spot and that's perfectly fine.

Yeah I don’t mean weed out personality in general, he’s an electric player and his energy and enthusiasm are a big part of why he’s become pretty much my favorite player on the team not named Sandy Alcántara. I just feel that sometimes being overly hyped/swaggy led to him being distracted and making unnecessary throwing errors, lapses on pretty routine ground balls, utterly terrible at bats, etc. So short story long, I guess what I’m saying is he needs to focus more on the game itself instead of trying to end up on ESPN and let that happen organically

Oh for SURE, I agree entirely. Focus on getting that defense down and let things happen.

@KimNg @DerekJeter @BruceSherman

I know why @SonOfJack would be drunk and want this team to go all in, because even with all the factors this off-season should be the one they spend big (the most possible $100MM payroll season if Frisaro keeps saying it ), it's still possible they didn't do it and it's why we need to self-hypnosis to believe it …

I want Seager or Correa, but both of them would asking for over $300MM, maybe Semien,Story and Baez would asking for "ONLY" $150~250MM…

I just want some bats. Doesn't matter the potion as our whole team is pretty much a bunch of guys with OPS under 800. We can compete with them, they just can't be our best batters.

I am cool with a few legit bats at any position, whoever we can get.  The only position we must get someone is Catcher. At least a replacement level player.

Nothing we don't already know but MLB.com summing it up well in their offseason preview article...

If the Marlins want to support those arms, GM Kim Ng is going to have to find a way to massively upgrade the lineup, which is exactly where we were a year ago.

Many people think it's impossible to sign back Marte, I don't think so. Do they dislike each other after the trade ? I believe Marte still wants to play in the Miami and this team still see him a great option to play the CF long term. Even with the competition from other teams (even the rich teams ), I don't think the numbers would be sky high due to his age. After all, he's the best option besides those trade options.

It's not impossible and it helps that Marte enjoyed playing here and expressed wanting to stay. If he really wanted to stay here than I doubt the trade changed his mind because he knows there's always a business side and he probably didn't take the trade personal. His reasons for wanting to stay likely still exist so if a fair offer is made he can definitely still take it. Of course the issue now is that there will be competition to sign him and even if the Marlins offer good money Marte is gonna have many options to choose from so it's not a sure bet.

Marlins never winning the “posting process ” (or never try ?) for the Asian players before, would they consider it this time ? it's always a huge gamble for this kind of stuff.
