I wasn't terribly optimistic about the off-season as it was, but I'm even less optimistic now.

Why ? because they seems not in on the SS FA ?

More of a case that I never expected them to be in on any of the impact FAs and still don't. Her avoiding the spending question did nothing to help that thinking for me.

I agree in general, that I'd rather focus on big upgrades than smaller ones that teams with no holes can go after........BUT, one counterpoint to your point is that BA can move around the field, meaning if you do acquire Chapman, while that may be a lateral move over BA looking strictly at 3B, you could put BA in LF or RF and have an upgrade there, resulting in a bigger overall net gain.

I suppose, but BA can't play any of the positions of real need. Right now we have Cooper at RF and Sanchez at LF. I don't really see BA as a major upgrade over either. So unless you plan to trade Cooper, it doesn't make much sense. I don't like the idea of rotating the three because it means that one of your stronger hitters is out every day. Plus it hurts more because it is a trade, so you would probably gave to give up some decent prospects for a marginal upgrade.

We should either get a SS or a strong utility option (Josh Harrison?) to cover for Cooper's injury history. The SS option makes a ton of sense since Miggy is versatile enough to where he could viably platoon with Lewin given our roster and if Coop did get hurt it would just mean more playing time for Miggy and Lewin rather than starting a guy like Isan like last year. Plus there are several super star SS on the market that instantly upgrade the offense. Either way we still need a Catcher and at least 1 CF whether they are the starter or 4th OF behind DLC (Preferably the starter).

Garcia has been alternating good and bad seasons though. Super risky, which would make him cheaper I guess...

Should have said my prediction out-loud before this tweet, but that's who I think they end up signing.

Not Castellanos, Conforto, resigning Marte, or Chris Taylor.

They go for an average OF like they did with Dickerson in the same offseason when they were linked to Garcia also.

That's one of the "big bats" right there.

Marte yes since he was a FA in waiting. But Duvall? He is headed to arby with Braves. Made sense to shop him, but we basically donated him to the Braves.

I just heard that in the video posted and had the same reaction as Fish Stripes.

I was also thinking about that yesterday...   They thought that the best move was to trade him to a divisional rival for Alex Jackson? A former top-prospect that was struggling mightily? Rather than just go through arbitration? This ownership is taking penny-pinching to the next level.

They really need to stop going with high-risk, high-reward, low-price players. It has bit them in the ass before and will continue to do so, plus slow down the rebuilding process.

Between the 90% likely work stoppage and this teams inability or unwillingness to do anything worth a damn, I haven’t been this unenthusiastic about a season in quite a few years.

She could be a politician the way she dances around a question. That wasn’t the question that was asked.

Who would win?  Ng or Hill?

Her uninspiring answers.

Oh, I'm with you.  I forgot about Cooper, to be honest.  I'm with you - sign a guy and you don't have to trade anyone.

Ng's ears perked up when the word "cheaper" was uttered.

I like how everyone assume's its Ng's fault they arent in on any big name free agents and not actual ownership giving her a real budget to go after any big name free agents.

We're not that stupid.  We realize it's ownership that determine the budget and therefore who the team goes after.  But she's the face of the FO, and the one talking with other GMs.  So yes, she gets a share of the blame when she gives nothing answers.

Given that they didn't seem to feel any pressure to make moves last season...and where we are headed with lockouts...what reason do they have to make a big move?

Garcia, Taylor, and Kirk don't make this a winning team even if you add all of them.

You are basically in the same spot as last season...hoping for 80 wins and probably closer 70.
