If signing him is the main outfield upgrade they make then the outfield is technically worse than opening day 2021 when they had both Marte and Duvall.

Not sure about that. Dickerson replaced by Sanchez, Duvall by DLC ... throw Marte in there, might be potentially on par or better.

Yeah but that’s just potential at this point. Duval was an established player and pretty much did exactly what was expected of him and more. Sanchez definitely seems to fit the same mold at best (high slugging, low average, good defense) but he’s still a question mark at this point who could go either way. Same goes for De La Cruz and pretty much every other player the marlins have faith in. There’s a difference between potential and production and I feel they need to invest a little more in some proven players to supplement the many prospects they’re putting a lot of faith in and give them some breathing room.

So yeah I agree with you, If all three of them perform to their full potential then yeah I think it would be a better outfield. But I’m kinda over them incubating young “toolsy” players at every position and hope they bring in 3-4 productive established regulars.

I'm with you on all that. It does require them to hit their potential for sure.

Marlins try to sign Marte now means they think he's the best CF option (FA or trade), but they should extended him already before he becomes a FA. It's really weird and it's not seems that you need to wait for the off-season to make sure he's the only realistic option in the CF.

They'll lowball him since he actually wants to be here. I hate being so negative but I'm just so sick of it

Probably.

"Well if he wants to be here, he'll take 20M less, right?"

If they were proven to be competent they could have very well traded him to be able to get Luzardo but then very much planned to sign him in free agency. Like that could have been the plan all along. Problem is I don't think the Marlins have shown that level of competency yet.

Yeah, everything about this team is "not yet ", "not yet " spending big, "not yet " creating a winning team …

its also going to cost a significant more amount of money to sign Marte now as well.  Let's not forget that little factor.

If this team still not determined to go all in to win then just go ahead and continue to be the laughingstock of the league.

Carlos Correa said Jeter didn't deserve any of the gold glove awards that he got, so, while I agree with him, Correa's probably not coming here now.

Damn I agree completely with him. But definitely a harbinger of what’s to come (or not come I guess lol)

"Marlins sign Carlos Correa for 8 years and $300M."

Jeter: "Alright, since he thinks he's so good on defense, we're going to intentionally put him in all bad spots on the field - see how many gold gloves you win now, bitch."

@el_gmac, if you don't like me you can always ignore my posts, maybe you think I'm a bandwagon fan but I just want this team to win and I have no other team to root for.

I enjoy your post what are you talking about , I've been trying to swoop you over Giantsbaseball for a long time

Duvall has no on base skill. Even this year, arguably his best offensively, the OBP was very poor. His only value comes from the home run ball. Frankly, that was stunted by the fact that the guys around him did not get on base and by the mammoth dimensions of loanDepot. As for his defense, I feel that he is due for regression. He was been below average defensively throughout his career. This year was more fluke than anything else. Ultimately, I would much rather have DLC, Sanchez, and Coop around Marte in the outfield.

Correa wins the GG and MVP just to spite Jeter...

One can dream.

Old thinking : Marlins can't acquire any top FA they want because they have no money.

New thinking : Marlins would acquire any top FA they want because they have the money.

The thing with going after Marte now though, the Marlins negotiated with him before so if they really want him they'll know what they need to offer. If they're just doing it to say they went after him but don't really want him then this doesn't matter but if they want him they'll offer the fourth year this time.
